Hard Bitten - Book Review

Times are hard for newly minted vampire Merit. Ever since shapeshifters announced their presence to the world, humans have been rallying against supernaturals—and they're camping outside of Cadogan House with protest signs that could turn to pitchforks at any moment. Inside its doors, things between Merit and her Master, green-eyed heartbreaker Ethan Sullivan, are tense. But then the mayor of Chicago calls Merit and Ethan to a clandestine meeting and tells them about a violent vamp attack that has left three women missing. His message is simple: get your House in order. Or else.

Merit needs to get to the bottom of this crime, but it doesn't help that she can't tell who's on her side. So she secretly calls in a favor from someone who's tall, dark, and part of an underground vamp group that may have some deep intel on the attack. Merit soon finds herself in the heady, dark heart of Chicago's supernatural society—a world full of vampires who seem to be ready to fulfill the protesting human's worst fears, and a place where she'll learn that you can't be a vampire without getting a little blood on your hands.

Book Breakdown

No. No! NO!!!!!

I can't even right now. I did not see that coming and I am losing my mind! How could that happen?! Ethan.... no...

Okay, rewind, let me clear my mind and get my thoughts together. This is the 4th book in the Chicagoland Vampires series, a series that I've been audiobooking while at work. I love this series. I remember reading the first book when it first came out but I never read the others when they came out. No idea why but I didn't. So now I am going through this whole series and I'm loving it so much. It keeps getting better and better. The writing is snarky and fun. The action is top notch and the romance is hot... when our characters get their act together.

This one though... it ripped my heart out. It ripped it out and threw it on the ground, without even feeling bad about it. It started out great, Merit has to figure out who is dealing V to the vampires and what is going on. She needs to do it fast and without the GP finding out because they are assholes. So it started out like any of the other books did. It's fun and action filled and everything is great and then the climax hits... and I died.

Read this book/series. You'll love it. It's got everything in it for anyone. It's funny, mysterious, and filled with wonderful characters that you will fall in love with and then drown in your own tears when they die.
