Update + Neon Gods Book Review

It’s been two weeks since I last created a post or even blog hopped. It’s been crazy busy for me and I’ve been reading a lot too. Yesterday I read a whole 500-page book in one day. I am so freaking proud of myself! I almost feel like my old self again... it’s a great feeling. Though my eyes are kinda mad at me haha.

But I have missed you guys! Seeing what ya’ll are reading and getting up to. So after completely this post, I’m going around to see what I’ve missed! I started school last week. The class size is full and I’m the only one with a mask. Which scares the crap outta me because no one in my class takes it seriously. Thankfully, no one has said anything negative to me at least.

The instructor changed the entire class around, so now I have no idea what’s coming next and that has me terrified. I hate surprises and not knowing how to prepare for something. I’m just trying not to think about it and let what comes... comes.

My next two weeks are packed full, but early September will settle down a bit. Thank goodness.

Side note: Halloween is coming! I’ve seen so much cool stuff in stores recently! My little black heart is so happy that my time is coming. Where I can just breathe and no one looks at me funny or says stupid things.

Anyway, I’ll stop gushing about spooky season and move onto the review!

He was supposed to be a myth.
But from the moment I crossed the River Styx and fell under his dark spell... he was, quite simply, mine.

Society darling Persephone Dimitriou plans to flee the ultra-modern city of Olympus and start over far from the backstabbing politics of the Thirteen Houses. But all that’s ripped away when her mother ambushes her with an engagement to Zeus, the dangerous power behind their glittering city’s dark facade.

With no options left, Persephone flees to the forbidden undercity and makes a devil’s bargain with a man she once believed a myth... a man who awakens her to a world she never knew existed.

Hades has spent his life in the shadows, and he has no intention of stepping into the light. But when he finds that Persephone can offer a little slice of the revenge he’s spent years craving, it’s all the excuse he needs to help her—for a price. Yet every breathless night spent tangled together has given Hades a taste for Persephone, and he’ll go to war with Olympus itself to keep her close…

A modern retelling of Hades and Persephone that’s as sinful as it is sweet.

Book Breakdown

This book has been everywhere! I had no idea it got so popular on TikTok, (I don’t have the platform, not my thing), but having read it I’m not surprised. Some of my classmates last year only read romance books that they saw on TikTok and when I read them too, I discovered that TikTok’s idea of romance and mine differ greatly!

To me, this isn’t romance but erotic romance. Which is totally fine! Just not my thing. When people jump into bed before they develop any feelings, it’s usually not thing. I think it’s because I’m demisexual and my brain just can’t compute haha.

Also, this book has kink in it. Exhibitionism was a pretty big one, even a huge plot point. During one scene where Hades and Persephone are in front of everyone doing their thing... Hades’ character just kinda changed so abruptly to me.

I’m trying to explain without giving spoilers or being sexually explicit haha. Hades cared so much about how they perceived him for so much of the book and then just flips on a dime and doesn’t care anymore. I felt it came out of left field and that was what really bothered me. It just made no sense to me.

Which is usually why erotica or erotic romance isn’t my thing. I’ve read a few and plot and character really seem to suffer just to make the book steamy, in my opinion. And hey, that’s cool! If that’s what you like, go for it! This is a safe space, and all is fine and dandy. It’s just not for me. A friend doesn't care about anything other than steam. So to each their own.

I like spice in my books, just not at the cost of the plot or characters. Also, I’m not into sex or a sexual act as the plot... or such a big part of it. I prefer the plot to exist outside of sex. Does that make any sense? I'm going such a bad job trying to explain this haha.

Now, the book’s very well written! I liked the wee bit of banter we got between Hades and Persephone. My favorite part was the bond between Persephone and her sisters. I actually wanted their books over this one because I got bored.

This book was boring...

How do you take Hades and Persephone and make it so boring?

Now, this book is so hyped and dearly loved that I’m probably just the outlier. So do I still recommend this book? Yes! If you like the myth of Hades and Persephone, erotica, erotic romance, and kink, then go for it!

If you have read this one, did you like it? Are you planning to read it? If not, tell me what you’re reading in the comments below!

(Pride) Book Review - Sagittarius Saves Libra

True love is on the horizon, Sagittarius. It’s a good time to step out of your routine and into the unknown. Jason Lyall wants someone to come home to, someone he can be his most ridiculous self with. Someone who loves him regardless. But no matter how hard he tries, he can never quite make that connection, and now his last girlfriend has moved on—she’s engaged. So when his identical twin begs him to swap lives for a few weeks, Jason can see the appeal. Suddenly he’s living another life in a tiny Australian town, contending with weird, wild, and wonderful things the likes of which he’s never encountered before. Like spiders. Like snakes. Like his new neighbour, Sergeant Owen Stirling, who is all kinds of . . . suspicious. Prepare to be caught in a merry mix-up, Libra. It’s a dance of side-stepping and seduction. Book Breakdown I did not know this was coming! When I woke up on June 1st and saw an email from Amazon saying the author dropped a new book in this series... I lost it! I hones

Music Monday - Recent Plays

This fun meme is hosted over at Always Me   I listened to a lot of music over this past week because I've been on fall break. It's been pretty good minus all the tornadoes and bad weather, but today the high was only around 70! That's amazing for this part of Oklahoma.  The music I've been vibing to is darker sounding songs since it's so close to Halloween! This year my partner and I are gonna crave pumpkins that always and then I'm gonna go with a friend on a train ride. She said she's done it before and it's fun. I'm hoping she'd right!  But for now, to the songs! Sooooooo what did you think? Let me know below and have a great week! Stay safe, wear a mask, and happy reading!

Bisexual Erasure (Pride Month)

Happy Pride! Since today is bisexual day, I wanted to talk about something important to me. I hope you'll listen with open ears, mind, and heart. Thank you.  I’ve seen this happening for years now. People will say things like, “it’s a phase” or “pick a side.” I’ve even seen some say that bisexual people only like cisgender men and women and exclude all other genders. Which isn’t always the case. Sure, some bisexual people feel that way, which is why pansexual and other names came into play. But at its core, being bisexual just means that you’re attracted to more than just one gender.  I’ve never hidden on this blog the fact that I’m bisexual but I rarely talk about the struggles I feel because it just never felt right when you have gay people that have to hide their complete selves for fear of what the world could do to them.  Or trans people who spend every day trapped in the wrong body and can’t tell anyone to get the things they need to be their truth selves.  Put against issues
