Angelstone (Dark Angel #2) - Review

After escaping from the Hollows, Jordan takes Alyx and Israel to Aradale, a secret Rogue community, where they appear to be safe − for now. But did they bring the enemy with them? “Mini”, the strange and speechless young girl they rescued from the Hollows, is not as she seems. Why was Elder Michael keeping her locked up? What is she hiding?

Out in the mortal cities, pieces of Black Stone, the only material that can disrupt the angels’ healing abilities, continue to be stolen to make weapons for Samyara’s dark army. Alyx and her friends must stop them, but this means infiltrating holy and guarded places to steal the Black Stone − a monastery in remote China, a mosque in Saudi Arabia, an art gallery in Florence and a cathedral in Peru.

Can they win this deadly race against the Darkened?

Book Breakdown

This was so much better than the first! More action, better character development and a better plot. I really enjoyed the first one after it got going but this! This book just blew me away. There was humor in this book. I enjoyed it greatly. I love Alyx! She is a great character!

This books picks up closely after the first and it just jumps into everything. No boring moments, the romance is true and realistic. I love Alyx and Israel together. They are cute and a real couple. Couples fight and have problems and so do they. My favorite part was their romance. The rest of the plot was still great and wonderful but it just took a backseat to the lovely romance.

A will warn you though, there is an epic cliff hanger! So you will want the third one close to grab and start reading. But I recommend this book to anyone who loved the first. Trust me, this was is much better!

I was nominated for this award by the sweetheart Sofia from Bookish Wanderess. Her blog is super cool so be sure to check it out. Don't forget to leave a comment while you're there, she is really nice.
So thank you so much Sofia for nominating me!

“The whole idea of the Sunshine Award is that you nominate bloggers who put a little sunshine in your day, who are positive, creative, and inspiring.”

– Answer the 11 questions from the blogger who nominated you.

– Nominate some wonderful bloggers and write 11 questions for them to answer.

Sofia's Questions

Do you read graphic novels? Do you have recommendations for someone who wants to start reading them?
I only read graphic novels from the books I love. Like Blue Bloods, TMI and such. I'm more a manga person. Prefer that art style better.

Do you have a genre that you really don’t like? One you never read?
Contemporary? I'm not a huge fan of books that just sit in this world with no extra stuff in them. But to each their own. I have read a few contemporary novels and loved them! They just don't honestly appeal to me often.

What is your favorite quote?
Like only one? Oh Dear Goddess, I could never ever chose. I have too many.

Do you read fantasy? What’s your favorite fantasy book?
A Court of Thorns and Roses. It's amazing. I love every single thing about it.

What’s your favorite TV show?
Reign, for now. That will probably change when Shadowhunters comes out.

Who is your favorite author?
This one should be easy to guess if you read any of my posts. Jennifer L Armentrout. Though Sarah J Maas is a close second!

Do you dislike a ship that everyone else likes?
No, not really.

What book to movie adaptation is your favorite?
The Harry Potter films or The Hunger Games films.

Do you listen to music while you are reading?
Yes, all the time. It really helps me to immerse in the world and plus no one talks to me.

What’s your opinion about classics?
They are great. I need to read more of them honestly. I've only read a few of the super popular ones. I just find most of them to be hard to relate to.

Who is the author you have read the most books from?
Jennifer L Armentrout. For now at least.

My Questions

1) What book are you most looking forward to in 2016?

2) What's your favorite TV show of all time?

3) Ultimate OPT?

4) What is your favorite indie book?

5) What is your favorite book genre? Why?

6) Which supernatural creature is your favorite?

7) What do you do in your spare time? Besides reading naturally.

8) Winter or Autumn?

9) In a zombie apocalypse what would be your game plan? Do you think you'd live long?

10) How old were you when you found your favorite author?

11)  What snacks do you like?

Book Cover Guessing Challenge!

Alright my little lilies gather around, I've got something really cool in store for this post. But before we dive into the fun let me thank the lovely Erika from Books, Stars, Writing, And Everything In Between for tagging me in this. If you want to see her post just click on the link above and go for it.

Here is the way this is going down.
Choose a couple of books that you know a wee bit about or nothing at all about and try to guess what they are about based on the cover and title. The books may be well-known or just familiar to you, but you haven't shelved it on Goodreads or even looked into it. After you are done guessing, compare your guess with the actual description on Goodreads, and see how well or awful you've done.  I’ve chosen 3 books.

My Thoughts
It's about a girl who brings people back to life? Or she's dead herself and comes back as a ghost? She looks strong though, maybe so will fight the people who killed her? Get revenge. I don't know.

Rose has reason to celebrate. She just graduated high school, she finally worked up the nerve to ask Roger on a date, and it looks like her family's necromancy skipped her.

But then she finds the corpse of a homeless man behind her brother Ed's restaurant and inadvertently revives him. Not only has she inherited her family's necromancy after all, but it's the most potent form that exists. She wants nothing to do with the magic that drove her father to kill her mother and then himself, and so she refuses to read her family's book of magic or admit that she's anything but normal.

However, her power attracts three lumenancers, or wielders of light, to Albuquerque to kill her. For centuries, they have believed it their sacred duty to wipe out necromancers. Not only are they eager to eliminate Rose, but they want to kill Ed, too, just to make sure he can't pass the magic on.

Rose searches for a peaceful, mundane way to get the lumenancers to leave her alone, but when they threaten Ed, she must embrace her necromancy and all that the book of magic has to teach her.

I suck at this already, but anyway, on we go!

My Thoughts
It looks like it's set in an older time by her hairstyle. She looks dead in the face though, maybe someone killed her? Or hurt her? The rose I don't know but it's a beautiful cover.

I am alone in a decaying world, abandoned by the man who stole my memories, yet claimed to love me.

I will journey through the darkest parts of the old world, facing horror and death along the way. A soldier will save me, bringing me to the great walled city of Veracity. I am drawn to him, but he harbors secrets that will change my life.

Relearning the strict rules of the world I was born into will be the easy part. Figuring out I'm more than just a pawn, in a game I can't remember, will be a matter of life and death.

This is why you should never judge a book by it's cover!!!

My Thoughts
Winter is bad. It's something that is going to hurt her? She doesn't look scared though, she maybe a fighter? Ready to kill these Winter People.

An engrossing, complex, romantic fantasy perfect for fans of Kristin Cashore or Maggie Stiefvater, set in a wholly unique world.

Salome Montgomery fears winter—the cold, the snow, the ice, but most of all, the frozen pond she fell through as a child. Haunted by the voices and images of the strange beings that pulled her to safety, she hasn't forgotten their warning to "stay away." For eleven years, she has avoided the winter woods, the pond, and the darkness that lurks nearby. But when failing health takes her grandparents to Arizona, she is left in charge of maintaining their estate. This includes the "special gifts" that must be left at the back of the property.

Salome discovers she’s a key player in a world she’s tried for years to avoid. At the center of this world is the strange and beautiful Nevin, who she finds trespassing on her family’s property. Cursed with dark secrets and knowledge of the creatures in the woods, his interactions with Salome take her life in a new direction. A direction where she'll have to decide between her longtime crush Colton, who could cure her fear of winter. Or Nevin who, along with an appointed bodyguard, Gareth, protects her from the darkness that swirls in the snowy backdrop. An evil that, given the chance, will kill her.

Yeah okay, I suck as this but it was fun! Now I'm going to tag two people. Hope you guys have fun!

Review - Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone

Harry Potter thinks he is an ordinary boy. He lives with his Uncle Vernon, Aunt Petunia and cousin Dudley, who are mean to him and make him sleep in a cupboard under the stairs. (Dudley, however, has two bedrooms, one to sleep in and one for all his toys and games.) Then Harry starts receiving mysterious letters and his life is changed forever. He is whisked away by a beetle-eyed giant of a man and enrolled at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. The reason: Harry Potter is a wizard! The first book in the "Harry Potter" series makes the perfect introduction to the world of Hogwarts.

Book Breakdown

My boyfriend finally got me to read this book. It was too the point he brought it up into almost every conversation. So I read it. Here is my honest thoughts and feelings.

Harry Potter is just a poorly treated kid. Those Dursleys need to be shot and killed! I think Harry would've been better off with foster parents or something. At least the would've wanted him. Harry is a sweet kid. After much hassle and sadness he finally gets his letter. And he's off to Hogwarts! The greatest school ever. Seriously, I want to go! He meets new friends and even stops the bad guy. Before having to go back to the those awful people.

This book was good. There was an interesting plot and characters and the world. God the world! I wish this world were real! I all of the little details the author put into the world. She really knows her stuff. The reason I give this book 4 instead of 5 stars is because it feels a little rushed and not as well detailed as I would've liked. My boyfriend says it gets better so I can't wait!!!

Favorite Quotes

1) "It does not do to dwell on dreams and forget to live.”

2) “It takes a great deal of bravery to stand up to our enemies, but just as much to stand up to our friends.”

Unpopular Opinions

1) A Popular Book or series that you didn't like.
The Talon series or Evermore.

2) A Popular Book or series that every one else seems to hate but you love.
Blue Bloods!!! Seriously, that series is so underrated.

3) A Love Triangle where the main character ended up with the person you did NOT want them to end up with (warn ppl for spoilers) OR an OTP that you don't like.
I usually end up liking the person the character choses. I don't have an answer for this one. Wait... I may have one. Seriously, spoilers here. I hate how in the Splintered series that she got to keep both guys. One or none is how it should've been.

4) A popular book Genre that you hardly reach for.
YA Contemporary. Not a huge fan of any contemporary, honestly.

5) A popular or beloved character that you do not like.
People my hate me for this but it's just my thoughts. No hate. If you like these people that's fine. Good for you but everyone is different.
1) Tris from Divergent
2) Jacob from Twilight
3) Jeb from Splintered

6) A popular author that you can't seem to get into.
I don't really have one. I like pretty much all popular author.

7) A popular book trope that you're tired of seeing. (examples "lost princess", corrupt ruler, love triangles, etc.)
Instant love!!! I'm so sick of girl meets boy and bam love. I love triangles and all the other stuff. But there is no love at first sight. There is lust at first sight but love needs time to develop.

8) A popular series that you have no interest in reading.
Beautiful Creatures.

9) The saying goes "The book is always better than the movie", but what movie or T.V. show adaptation do you prefer more than the book?
Harry Potter, the movies to me are better.

Angelfire (Dark Angel #1)

Forget everything you know about angels…

You’ll likely find Alyxandria slicing demons with her blades rather than plucking at harp strings. Whether it's with weapons, unarmed or with the “borrowed magics” of distilled angel-blood tattoos, she trains harder than any other Seraphim warrior to prove she is nothing like her parents who abandoned her to become Rogues.

When Alyx starts displaying the signs of a strange new magic, most don’t believe her and no one has answers for her. She starts to investigate for herself. The web of lies she uncovers will shatter her world and she’ll be forced to risk everything for Israel, a mortal she barely knows.

Alyx and Israel will soon realize that their destinies are inexplicably tied - and that their choices will determine the fate of Earth itself.

It begins in Angelfire.

Book Breakdown

I was given this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.

Alyx, our main character is an 18 eighteen year old lightwarrior and pretty damn good one at that. She's also the daughter of two rouge's and that's not the best thing in this world. Though everything changes for her when she starts having visions. This leads her to discover that her future and destiny are nothing like she thought they'd be. Alyx is a strong character and yet she can still be soft and I like that. She's real. She's a rebel in her own way I love rebels so much.

I love the writing style, it was clear and easy to follow. It followed well, not once did I laugh at cheesy dialogue. I did have to knock one star away form this book for how long it too me to get into... I was about 30% in when I actually found myself invested in Alyx and wanted to know what happened next. Once you get past that part the story was flawless and kept me reading way into the night!

There are so many elements in this book that I think just about anyone found find something to love about it. There's so sweet friendships, awful betrayals that make you want to cry and some great action! I seriously can't wait to jump into the next book!

Book Haul (4)

I got this one the day it came out.

Every choice has consequences—but seventeen-year-old Layla faces tougher choices than most. Light or darkness. Wickedly sexy demon prince Roth, or Zayne, the gorgeous, protective Warden she never thought could be hers. Hardest of all, Layla has to decide which side of herself to trust.

Layla has a new problem, too. A Lilin—the deadliest of demons—has been unleashed, wreaking havoc on those around her…including her best friend. To keep Sam from a fate much, much worse than death, Layla must strike a deal with the enemy while saving her city—and her race—from destruction.

Torn between two worlds and two different boys, Layla has no certainties, least of all survival, especially when an old bargain comes back to haunt them all. But sometimes, when secrets are everywhere and the truth seems unknowable, you have to listen to your heart, pick a side—and then fight like hell…

From the throne of glass rules a king with a fist of iron and a soul as black as pitch. Assassin Celaena Sardothien won a brutal contest to become his Champion. Yet Celaena is far from loyal to the crown. She hides her secret vigilantly; she knows that the man she serves is bent on evil.

Keeping up the deadly charade becomes increasingly difficult when Celaena realizes she is not the only one seeking justice. As she tries to untangle the mysteries buried deep within the glass castle, her closest relationships suffer. It seems no one is above questioning her allegiances—not the Crown Prince Dorian; not Chaol, the Captain of the Guard; not even her best friend, Nehemia, a foreign princess with a rebel heart.

Then one terrible night, the secrets they have all been keeping lead to an unspeakable tragedy. As Celaena's world shatters, she will be forced to give up the very thing most precious to her and decide once and for all where her true loyalties lie... and whom she is ultimately willing to fight for.

Celaena Sardothien is Adarlan's most feared assassin. As part of the Assassin's Guild, her allegiance is to her master, Arobynn Hamel, yet Celaena listens to no one and trusts only her fellow killer-for-hire, Sam. In these action-packed novellas - together in one edition for the first time - Celaena embarks on five daring missions. They take her from remote islands to hostile deserts, where she fights to liberate slaves and seeks to avenge the tyrannous. But she is acting against Arobynn's orders and could suffer an unimaginable punishment for such treachery. Will Celaena ever be truly free? Explore the dark underworld of this kick-ass heroine to find out.

I own this whole series with the new covers but I just love these. I know a lot of people hate on them but just look at that perfection!

Daemon will do anything to get Katy back.

After the successful but disastrous raid on Mount Weather, he’s facing the impossible. Katy is gone. Taken. Everything becomes about finding her. Taking out anyone who stands in his way? Done. Burning down the whole world to save her? Gladly. Exposing his alien race to the world? With pleasure.

All Katy can do is survive.

Surrounded by enemies, the only way she can come out of this is to adapt. After all, there are sides of Daedalus that don’t seem entirely crazy, but the group’s goals are frightening and the truths they speak even more disturbing. Who are the real bad guys? Daedalus? Mankind? Or the Luxen?

Together, they can face anything.

But the most dangerous foe has been there all along, and when the truths are exposed and the lies come crumbling down, which side will Daemon and Katy be standing on?

And will they even be together?

I've read this book before but from the library, figured it was time to buy it.

Adelina Amouteru is a survivor of the blood fever. A decade ago, the deadly illness swept through her nation. Most of the infected perished, while many of the children who survived were left with strange markings. Adelina’s black hair turned silver, her lashes went pale, and now she has only a jagged scar where her left eye once was. Her cruel father believes she is a malfetto, an abomination, ruining their family’s good name and standing in the way of their fortune. But some of the fever’s survivors are rumored to possess more than just scars—they are believed to have mysterious and powerful gifts, and though their identities remain secret, they have come to be called the Young Elites.

Teren Santoro works for the king. As Leader of the Inquisition Axis, it is his job to seek out the Young Elites, to destroy them before they destroy the nation. He believes the Young Elites to be dangerous and vengeful, but it’s Teren who may possess the darkest secret of all.

Enzo Valenciano is a member of the Dagger Society. This secret sect of Young Elites seeks out others like them before the Inquisition Axis can. But when the Daggers find Adelina, they discover someone with powers like they’ve never seen.

Adelina wants to believe Enzo is on her side, and that Teren is the true enemy. But the lives of these three will collide in unexpected ways, as each fights a very different and personal battle. But of one thing they are all certain: Adelina has abilities that shouldn’t belong in this world. A vengeful blackness in her heart. And a desire to destroy all who dare to cross her.

It is my turn to use. My turn to hurt.

Review - The Assassin and the Desert (Throne of Glass Prequel #3)

The Silent Assassins of the Red Desert aren’t much for conversation, and Celaena Sardothien wouldn’t have it any other way. She’s not there to chatter, she’s there to hone her craft as the world’s most feared killer for hire. When the quiet is shattered by forces who want to destroy the Silent Assassins, Celaena must find a way to stop them, or she’ll be lucky to leave the desert alive.

Book Breakdown

Celaena is sent to The Red Desert for punishment and she can't return to her master without a letter of approval from the Master of the Silent Assassins. She intends to do whatever it takes it get that letter. Upon her arrival she gets a roommate: Ansel. They quickly become friends. This makes Celaena happy as she has never had a female friend before but she is also sad about leaving her new friend when the time comes.

Celaena discovers that the Silent Assassins are often attacked by Lord Berick. The master sends Ansel to talk with him. While waiting Celaena meets a man who tells her of a traitor in the guild. She doesn't think too much of it. The pair end up stealing horses and the master makes them clean the stalls for punishment but then he finally decides to train our favorite assassin.

One night Ansel slips our assassin something to make her sleep and she wakes up in the middle of the desert and that's when she put it all together. Ansel is the traitor and so she rushes back to help the Silent Assassins and makes it just in time. She ends up letting Ansel live and the master gives her the letter, plus lots of gold!

Okay so... I hate to say this because I actually liked Ansel at first but I totally saw this coming when she didn't let Celaena into the palace with her... still didn't make it any less enjoyable though. I loved the action and all the other assassins seemed cool, much better than where she is from in Adarlan. So far though this one is my favorite and I can't wait to jump into the next one! Seriously sunflowers, if you haven't read this yet do it now!

Favorite Quotes

1) “If you can learn to endure pain, you can survive anything. Some people learn to embrace it—to love it. Some endure it through drowning it in sorrow, or by making themselves forget. Others turn it into anger. But Ansel let her pain become hate, and let it consume her until she became something else entirely—a person I don’t think she ever wished to be.”

2) “Words could be just as deadly as steel.”

Manga Mondays (1)

I saw this on Allison's blog Allison Can Read and loved the idea. I love manga and manhwa and want to share that love with all of you guys too! So every two weeks I'll be posting a new Manga Monday! Hope you guys join me on this epic adventure. First I'm going to explain a little about manga and manhwa and how I came to love it.

1) What is manga?

A style of Japanese comic books and graphic novels, typically aimed at adults as well as children.

2) What is manhwa?

It's a general Korean term for comics and print cartoons (common usage also includes animated cartoons). Outside of Korea, the term usually refers specifically to South Korean comics.

3) When did I start reading manga/manhwa?

It was a bright sunny day in the little small town of Ashland, Kentucky. A young girl begged her parents to take her to the local Walden's bookstore in the Ashland Town Center (the mall). They said they would after we finished all of our errands. She listened to her iPod while waiting (impatiently if the girl were honest) for them to finish. After everything was taken care of they drove their red Ford minivan to the mall.

The girl jumped out of the minivan and almost ran into the store but held herself back as she didn't want people to look at her funny. This girl got that enough on her own for the way she dressed (goth). She went into the store and headed for the young adult section and to her dismay, she'd read all the books along the wall (it was a small bookstore to be fair). She was deeply sad and started to walk towards the exit when something caught her eyes... sexy vampires?

She walked over and picked up the first volume of Vampire Knight (epic manga by the way. Still her very favorite to this day). She skimmed the pages and found herself loving the art style and those vampire guys were pretty damn hot. She also found herself loving the story as well. There was only five volumes out at that time and with her Borders reward card she was able to get them all.

She was excited, these weren't books like she was used to but they were still so intriguing and pulled her into the story world easily. She devoured them and wanted more! Though she had to wait months for the next release. She found herself looking at other manga too and thus the love of manga was born!

Here is my first manga review!

Yuki Cross has no memory of her past prior to the moment she was saved from a vampire attack ten years ago. She was adopted by the headmaster of Cross Academy, and now works alongside Zero to guard the Academy's secret. Cross Adademy is attended by two groups of students: the Day Class and the Night Class. At twilight, when the students of the Day Class return to their dorm, they cross paths with the Night Class on their way to school. Yuki Cross and Zero Kiryu are the Guardians of the school, protecting the Day Class from the Academy's dark secret: the Night Class is full of vampires! - From Goodreads

Manga Breakdown

This first volume serves as more of a prelude, giving the reader a glimpse of all the characters, showing that Zero is a vampire; turned by a Pureblood who killed the rest of his family. We also get to see just how much Yuuki already loves Kaname and how he cares for her very dear to his heart also. It tells you that Kaname is a Pureblood (not the same one that turned Zero), the most powerful vampire out there. Pureblood's have more abilities than Aristocrats. You see just how loyal all the students are to their Pureblood dorm president, Kaname. No real plot follows this volume, but it sets up more when the action and romance really take off in volume two.

The art is amazing, some of the very best I've seen in manga, it's honestly my favorite. Matsuri Hino puts so much detail into evertyhing, even the backgrounds. I've seen plenty of manga artists who skimp of the fine details of such things.

Something I really love is her take on vampires, they are still fierce and powerful without being too far out there. They still have fangs (sexy....) and red eyes. They aren't killed by sunlight but it weakens them and makes them tired. I also thought a good touch was only Purebloods can turn a human into a vampire, makes it seem more realistic to me. Overall, this is an awesome way to start a fantastic series.

Review - The Assassin and the Healer (Throne of Glass Prequel #2)

Meet the Assassin: beautiful, defiant, destined for greatness. Celaena Sardothien has challenged her master. Now she must pay the price. Her journey to the Red Desert will be an arduous one, but it may change the fate of her cursed world forever...

Book Breakdown

Celaena finds herself staying at a piece of crap Inn waiting for a ship to take her to The Red Desert to train with The Silent Assassins. It's her punishment for freeing the slaves and ruining her Master's deal with the Pirate Lord. On her last night she saves a young woman, only a few years older than herself from some really bad men. Then she teaches the woman a few ways to defend herself. They get to talking and our assassin finds out that Yrene wants to be a healer. Before Celaena leaves she leaves a lot of money for the girl, hoping she will take her future into her own hands.

I think that this one is the least interesting of the group but it's still so cool just to be in the Throne of Glass world and be with Celaena. I just love her as a character. As always Sarah's writing is astonishing. I love seeing Celaena this way, she tries to act all tough and bad on the outside but she really is such a good person. Read this short story. It's one heck of an adventure.

Favorite Quotes

1) “The girl wore her scars the way some women wore their finest jewelry.”

2) “Let me give you a bit of advice.' the girl said bitterly, 'from one working girl to another; life isn't easy, no matter where you are. You'll make choices you think are right and then suffer for them.' Those remarkable eyes flickered. 'So if you're going to be miserable, you might as well go to Antica and be miserable in the shadow of the Torre Cesme.”

3) “The girl was alluring. Like wildfire, or a summer storm swept off the Gulf of Oro.”

My Story

It's kind of sad really. I have no friends who read like me. I have one friend who reads but it's that erotica stuff that I'm not into. So I have no one to share my thoughts with or fangirl with in my everyday life. It's been like this for years. My sister will listen and my boyfriend does too but they really don't care, haha. I'd never thought about starting a blog... what would I write? How could I talk to others? I'm quite shy. Then I read the Lux series... Katy was a book blogger. It gave me the idea and I went with it.
I don't even remember my first blog post, a review but I don't know of what book. It took a very long time to get my first comment but I saw it... I was so amazingly happy. I'm still so happy to get every single comment I do. That's my story. Short and sweet. Only a few more months till my blog anniversary though. I started on November 11, 2014. Thank you all so much for coming with me on this road and for all the friends I've made.

My Advice

Do what you want, don't do memes and stuff just to get followers. It will get boring. If you enjoy your posts and have fun then that's all that matters.

My second piece of advice is for new bloggers, don't get disheartened if no one comments, it happens. It still happens to me. It's how it goes. So don't stop or give up. Keep on going!
