Happy Halloween!

So what plans do my little daisies have for today? Are you just going to read scary books? Go with a younger sibling trick or treating? I am just going to sit around the house and watch some scary movies until my partner gets off work. I didn't get to read too many scary books this year and that makes me sad. But next year I plan to change that and read a whole lot more of them! Have a safe and happy Halloween.

Digital Book Haul (1)

So these are all the ebooks I got recently, two were given to me by the authors.

It could not be worse for ninth grader Becky Michigan on her first day at a new school, sitting in beet juice and staining her white jeans in a classroom about to fill up with students. In the nick of time, a gorgeous blonde boy named Danny comes in and offers his oversized baseball jersey so she can cover up, get to the office, and change. By the time she pulls the shirt over her head however, he has mysteriously disappeared.

Becky scours the school in search of her dream-athlete and wonders why after contact with him she has magically gained the ability to throw a fastball ninety miles per hour! Instead of finding the answer, however, Becky’s new skill pits her against the school bully and the entire varsity baseball team. That night, after her exciting showdown in front of the entire school, Danny shows up at her bedroom window. If she will agree to meet him behind the school at midnight on the ball field at the edge of the woods, he promises to reveal a secret meant to alter the past and change her life forever.

The thrilling conclusion to the Dark Angel series…

Everything about Michael’s dark plan has been hidden – until now. On an island off the coast of Egypt, a fourth Seraphim city has been discovered; a city that doesn’t appear on any Seraphim map. This city is hidden, the air smells of blood and there is something very, very wrong with the inhabitants.

Back at Castle Speranza, while Alyx is off uncovering the secret of Raphael’s charm, someone will betray her in the worst possible way…

Michael now has everything he needs. Will Alyx be able to stop Michael? Or could this be the end of the world as we know it?

The first two were given to me by the authors. I've yet to read Becky's Kiss but it sounds great!

It's been six weeks since angels of the apocalypse descended to demolish the modern world. Street gangs rule the day while fear and superstition rule the night. When warrior angels fly away with a helpless little girl, her seventeen-year-old sister Penryn will do anything to get her back.

Anything, including making a deal with an enemy angel.

Raffe is a warrior who lies broken and wingless on the street. After eons of fighting his own battles, he finds himself being rescued from a desperate situation by a half-starved teenage girl.

Traveling through a dark and twisted Northern California, they have only each other to rely on for survival. Together, they journey toward the angels' stronghold in San Francisco where she'll risk everything to rescue her sister and he'll put himself at the mercy of his greatest enemies for the chance to be made whole again.

In this sequel to the bestselling fantasy thriller, Angelfall, the survivors of the angel apocalypse begin to scrape back together what's left of the modern world.

When a group of people capture Penryn's sister Paige, thinking she's a monster, the situation ends in a massacre. Paige disappears. Humans are terrified. Mom is heartbroken.

Penryn drives through the streets of San Francisco looking for Paige. Why are the streets so empty? Where is everybody? Her search leads her into the heart of the angels' secret plans where she catches a glimpse of their motivations, and learns the horrifying extent to which the angels are willing to go.

Meanwhile, Raffe hunts for his wings. Without them, he can't rejoin the angels, can't take his rightful place as one of their leaders. When faced with recapturing his wings or helping Penryn survive, which will he choose?

End of Days is the explosive conclusion to Susan Ee’s bestselling Penryn & the End of Days trilogy.

After a daring escape from the angels, Penryn and Raffe are on the run. They’re both desperate to find a doctor who can reverse the twisted changes inflicted by the angels on Raffe and Penryn’s sister. As they set off in search of answers, a startling revelation about Raffe’s past unleashes dark forces that threaten them all.

When the angels release an apocalyptic nightmare onto humans, both sides are set on a path toward war. As unlikely alliances form and strategies shift, who will emerge victorious? Forced to pick sides in the fight for control of the earthly realm, Raffe and Penryn must choose: Their own kind, or each other?

This is a stand alone novel that is an adult spin-off of the Lux Series You do not need to read a Lux book to read Obsession and vice versa.

He’s arrogant, domineering, and... To. Die. For.

Hunter is a ruthless killer. And the Department of Defense has him firmly in their grasp, which usually doesn’t chafe too badly because he gets to kill bad guys. Most of the time he enjoys his job. That is, until he’s saddled with something he’s never had to do before: protect a human from his mortal enemy.

Serena Cross didn’t believe her best friend when she claimed to have seen the son of a powerful senator turn into something... unnatural. Who would? But then she witnesses her friend’s murder at the hands of what can only be an alien, thrusting her into a world that will kill to protect their secret.

Hunter stirs Serena’s temper and her lust despite their differences. Soon he’s doing the unthinkable—breaking the rules he’s lived by, going against the government to keep Serena safe. But are the aliens and the government the biggest threats to Serena’s life… or is it Hunter?

This is actually an adult novel..... /gasps/ Yep but it's my favorite author and a spin off of one of my favorite series. So that's it for this book haul! Have you gotten any ebooks lately?

The 'Dark' Disney Princess Book Tag!

Soudha from Of Stacks and Cups created this tag and it looks like so much fun. I love the Disney movies and the princesses so much. I grew up on Disney movies and I love them still. Who is your favorite Disney princess? Movie? Let me know below in the comments. Also I'm trying to 'Halloween' up all my posts as much as I can so all the pictures below with feature the Disney princesses in a darker form.

      Name Your Favorite Classic

I am obsessed vampires. This was so amazing to me as a kid. Though I will admit I had to reread it twice to fully understand it but I was really young.

Pick a book that kept you reading well past your bedtime

I read this book in one night. I couldn't stop reading, even when my favorite show came on.

Name your favorite classic romance

If you don't know what this picture is from then you're missing out. Period.

Name a book that's about making sacrifices and fighting for your dreams

I don't think this one needs any expirations.

Name a book with a smart and independent female character

The Hunger Games. Katniss is very smart, she's had to hunt and take care of her family before surviving The Hunger Games, twice.

Name a book where the character challenges the social conventions of their world

Mare Barrow fits this nicely I'd say. I think she really challenged the social norm. I also can't wait to see what she does next.

Name a book that had a roller coaster ending

I don't want to spoil the end for anyone...

Name a book featuring with a kick ass female character

Celeana! She's the most kick ass female I've ever read about and she's amazing!

Name a book featuring a hardworking, self-made character

Jon Snow from A Song of Fire and Ice. He's so hardworking and completely hot. Okay that had nothing to do with the question but it's true.

Name a book featuring an artist

Feyre!
Is anyone else excited for A Court of Mist and Fury?! I want it right this minute! It's still my favorite book of the year.

6 Halloween(ie) Reads

This is a small list of some awesome horror novels. Have you read any for the Halloween season? Do you have any good recommendations for me? Leave a comment and let me know! Now to the list my little sunflowers!

This book is very creepy and scared me quite a bit. Perfect to get into the Halloween mood. Which is almost over....  next comes Thanksgiving(US) though!

I admit to actually only having read this one in bright lights. I was too freaked out to try it at night.

This one didn't scare me but it had some creepy moments that is perfect for those that want a slight scare but still want to sleep at night.

This is kind of like Miss Peregrine's but to me it was scarier. CREEPY!

This one is the one that I freaked out over. I was so scared when reading this book that I huddled over in the corner of my bed with the blankets around me. I even slept with a night light for a few nights.  This book is not one I recommend for the feint of heart.

This one was just creepy. Nothing too bad. I enjoyed it throughly though.

Manga Breakdown

Teru is a sixteen year old girl that lives alone. Her older brother died about a year ago and all he left her with is Daisy. A person she texts all the time. She even says that Daisy is the most important person to her. Though she has never meet Daisy in real life.

Through this volume she meets Kurosaki. Her school janitor after he comes to find the one who threw a baseball through the school window. When she confesses that she threw the baseball, he makes her 'pay with her body'.  Which means that she has to help him with his work around the school. But things start to happen... she finds out that Daisy is a hacker when he helps her out of a bad situation.

She doesn't know that Kurosaki is Daisy even as she gets closer to him. He even let her stay at his place after hers was broken into and ruined. Kurosaki acts like a jerk to her most of the time. But then he goes off and saves her or has a sweet tender moment that will just melt your heart. It's easy to see his feelings for Teru and the I wondered why he was such a jerk since he liked her but you find out in the end and it all makes sense. He caused her brother's death and doesn't feel he has the right to love her.

The art is nice. Some pictures to me are just too silly but then other's are just so lovely that is evens out nicely. This is a comedy so if you're in a bad mood it will makes me laugh and smile. I will be getting more of these volumes very soon! I want to know if Teru ever finds out about Daisy!

Have you read this manga? If so, did you enjoy it? Let me know below! Thanks for reading sunflowers.

One desperate journey for the truth

Returning to Willows Lake eleven years after her mother’s tragic death, Sloane Baker knows she will finally get the answers she needs! She always suspected that there was something more sinister at the heart of the accident that claimed her mother’s life, but a cryptic note could be the key to her past…

Two lives changed forever

The small town has always seemed safe to Brianna Taylor – until a mysterious new girl arrives who looks exactly like Bri! Now everything Bri knew has been thrown into question and Sloane’s arrival has changed the world of Willows Lake forever.

Strange things are happening in Willows Lake. But when they turn deadly, Bri and Sloane must find a way to save each other or risk losing everything they hold dear…

Book Breakdown

We start off with Slone. A girl who lost her mother in a car crash a while back. She knows something is off about the whole thing and then when she receives an unsigned letter telling her to come to Williow Lake as the person who sent the note has the answers she seeks.

Sloane sneaks away without her father knowing and gets kissed by a guy who called her Bri. She knows something is wrong and she's not leaving without answers.

Bri is a sweet young girl who's lived in Willow Lake her while life. She's got a few good friends and a boy who wants more than friendship. Then everything changes when she sees a girl with her face. They look like twins. But they actually share a soul. They are the Two. Two halves of a hole.

They decide to work together to figure out the note and the real reason Slone's mother died - Bri's mother as well. The girls get attacked and someone Bri trusts betrays her. This is a good book, a plot twist I didn't see coming. It has some cute clean romance for all the fans romance fans out there.

Sloane is a strong character. She's pretty confident in herself. I really like her. She seemed more like a lone wolf kind of girl and I enjoyed that. She's not scared to stand up for herself. To me she's a better character than Bri. Bri is the sweet little girl. The nice one. The one who lets the bully bug her and tries to be the bigger person. She's careful what she says as to not hurt people's feelings. Bri even goes as far as to be friends with the town's 'weirdo'.

The writing is plain and simple. Nothing fancy, nothing too wordy. Just more to the point. It's not bad writing but I've seen a whole lot better.

Overall, this book was entertaining and a very quick read. If you want something easy to read and fun, go for this book. If you want something with lots of depth, look elsewhere.

The Carnelian Legacy - Review

Marisa MacCallum always believed that the man of her dreams was out there somewhere. The problem is—he’s in another dimension.

After the death of her father, eighteen-year-old Marisa's life is on the verge of imploding. She seeks comfort on her daily ride through the woods of Gold Hill, but when a mysterious lightning storm strikes, she is hurled into the ancient, alternate dimension of Carnelia where she is discovered by the arrogant but attractive nobleman, Ambassador Darian Fiore.

Stranded in a world teeming with monsters, maniacs and medieval knights, Marisa is forced to join Darian on a dangerous mission to negotiate peace with his cousin and archenemy, Savino da Rocha. Along the way, she starts to see Darian's softer side and finds herself falling in love. But once she learns that he is locked into an arranged marriage, her heart shatters.

When Savino falls for her charms and demands her hand in exchange for peace, Marisa is faced with an impossible choice: marry the enemy of the man she loves or betray them both and become the catalyst for a bloody war.

Book Breakdown

Marisa has felt like an outsider for all her life, a feeling that gets worse when her father dies. She takes her horse for a ride on the day of his funeral and is transported to other realm. Where she just happens to be spotted by two men who speak.... popcorn logic. She follows them through their mission and naturally, stuff happens. They get attacked by some animals and she runs away... RUNS AWAY. She's a very weak character to me. I found myself wanting to smack her. She ends up falling in love with a man named Darian. A prince. But she got an offer of marriage from his cousin.

Marisa goes back and forth between wanting to be with Drarian and deciding to let him go. She even almost kills herself at one point but hears "God's" voice and doesn't. She now feels loved and safe. I dislike Marisa because she is seriously so freaking weak! Bella from Twilight was a stronger character than her. Anyway, she ends up being the lost princess and gets the guy. After a huge reveal and silly needlessness.

I also wish NetGalley had said this was Christian ... I wouldn't have touched this thing because the whole voice in the head bit really made me want to put the book down and just stop. I don't like reading Christian fiction. I have nothing against it, just not my cup of tea, at all. Though on a more positive side, I really love this author's writing. It seemed almost lyrical at some points. Beautiful!

Book Haul (6)

This is my favorite book haul yet! I got a lot of great things. Some I bought myself with the money from my new job and others my partner bought me. Isn't he great? He knows just how to get to my heart. Love you +Steven Sallie not that he will even read this but yeah.

I've read the whole series before but never owned any of them. Then last week at Barnes and Nobles, it was there. The very last copy. I didn't think they'd sell this in a bookstore like B&N because it's an indie book but I was so excited to see it and I snapped up the last copy!

Yes, I already own a perfectly fine paperback copy but I saw this at Half Price books in hardback and it was brand new! Who on earth would want to give away this book?! Well, I guess I am... I'm going to sell them my paperback copy and get a different book.

I like this cover... yeah that's the only reason I bought it. Well, my partner got this one for me actually.

I found the UK version of this book and since I need to finish this series anyway, it worked.

I already had this book in ebook form but my partner knows how much I hate dislike ebooks and when he saw this he got me the hardcover version. Isn't that so sweet?

This one goes without saying why I wanted it. Though I'm not happy with the retelling so far...

This book... I've reread this book so many times and I am not sure why. It's not the best book but I just keep coming back to it. The rest of the series isn't so good.

I got this book SIGNED! SIGNED!

That's it for this book haul, what books have you gotten recently buttercups? Let me know below.
