Shadowhunters Episode 3 - Short Review

I think this is going to be my last review for this series. I was hoping that I would have more good things to say and then I'd get to fangirl over everything but I don't want to keep harping on the same things or keep ragging on this TV show. I will say last nights episode was.... just too different. I also hate to say that it's forgettable, I watched the episode last night and have already forgotten pretty much all of it. Sad.

I understand that when you adapt books to screen that things need to change. This is just too much. I am glad that each episode does seem to get a little better. I'm not sure if that's just because everything is growing on me though.

Anyway, I may tune into this show in a few episodes to see if it's gotten any better but this is about all I can take when it comes to something I love being so abused and torn apart. I will still say that I like the movie better than this.

I'm going to abadon this ship and just watch something more interesting or read the books again. I mean Lady Midnight is coming out in March and I want to try and reread the series. To all those that like the TV show, I'm glad. I'm happy that some people can kind enjoyment in this and it was so epic that we got a second chance to see our beloved world come to life. Sadly, it just wasn't good to me.

Illuminae - Review

This morning, Kady thought breaking up with Ezra was the hardest thing she’d have to do.

This afternoon, her planet was invaded.

The year is 2575, and two rival megacorporations are at war over a planet that’s little more than an ice-covered speck at the edge of the universe. Too bad nobody thought to warn the people living on it. With enemy fire raining down on them, Kady and Ezra—who are barely even talking to each other—are forced to fight their way onto an evacuating fleet, with an enemy warship in hot pursuit.

But their problems are just getting started. A deadly plague has broken out and is mutating, with terrifying results; the fleet's AI, which should be protecting them, may actually be their enemy; and nobody in charge will say what’s really going on. As Kady hacks into a tangled web of data to find the truth, it's clear only one person can help her bring it all to light: the ex-boyfriend she swore she'd never speak to again.

Told through a fascinating dossier of hacked documents—including emails, schematics, military files, IMs, medical reports, interviews, and more—Illuminae is the first book in a heart-stopping, high-octane trilogy about lives interrupted, the price of truth, and the courage of everyday heroes.

Book Breakdown

This book jumps right into the action. Kady and Ezra's home planet; Kerenza is invaded by BeiTech. UTA (United Terran Authority) gets there and helps the WUC, to kick some BeiTech ass. Though one BeiTech dreadnought survives... the Lincoln.

Of the UTA fleet the Alexander, Hypatia, and the Copernicus survive. Kady ends up on the Hypatia and Ezra on the Alexander. The Alexander as taken a lot of damage and can no long create it's own wormhole. So now everyone's worried about the Lincoln catching up and killing them all. Scary stuff.

While all that has been going down, Ezra's been trying to reach Kady. His ex girlfriend, whom had just broken up with him the day on the invasion. The UTA are in dire need of more people and soon Ezra is scripted into being a fight pilot. Kady on the other hand, begins to work with another hacker. See, the UTA isn't giving their passengers all the information they deserve, so our hackers set out to see what that is.

The Alexander AI then decides to kill everyone on the Copernicus because a virus has broken out on board because of BeiTech. It starts slowly and then turns it's victims into zombies. Not to mention during this time that the Lincoln is catching up! So they shut down the AI but when Lincoln comes calling, they have to to turn it back on and everyone goes crazy.

Does our couple survive? Do they get back together? Does Lincoln kill them or or does the AI? Does anyone ever get back at BeiTech for going into their planet? You MUST read to find out!

This book is just so good! I didn't think I'd like it. Not really my kind of thing honestly. But the format... it doesn't read like a normal book and that's what makes it so freaking cool! It reads in a series of chat logs, diary entries, and even a few web pages. I've never seen a book do this before. Don't get me wrong, the story is good too. Though it does start off a little slow, it took me a while to really invest in these characters but when I did.... I found that I couldn't put this book down. I even took it to work with me and read on breaks. It's so amazing!

If you've not read this book already, what are you waiting for? It's worth a read and if you're like me and this isn't usually your kind of read, I'd still give it a chance, so worth it! It's such a great book, had me on the edge of my seat and it's so beautiful!

Shadowhunters Episode 2 - Review

So here we are with the second episode. Before I jump into anything, I do want to say that I think this episode is better than the first. That doesn't mean I love this episode and think it's great, because I don't. There are things that are still bothering me, like Clary and Jace. It just mean that this one is better than the train wreck of the first one.

So I want to start off with I still wish they would replace Jace and Clary. Jace is too stiff and rather boring while Clary... her words make her seem like she really cares but her face... she just seems a little bland in the face when she needs to be showing emotion. This actress just isn't the badass that I see as Clary.

I said in my rant that I love the guy playing Luke and that is still very true, I'm just wondering if their budget was so low they couldn't show Luke as a werewolf. Or are they saving it? Because we got to hear the noises. Why in the world is Magnus leaving!? That doesn't help further the plot in anyway. He needs to stay and help or at least meet Alec already. Yeah I just don't understand why he is leaving.

I love the actress playing Izzy. She is stunning and very close to what I see when I picture her. It's just the writing... like in the bedroom scene with Simon and her Jace lines... the way the writers wrote it, makes it sound like she has a huge crush on Jace which is just weird to me. They need to give her better lines! The actress has such potential!

The Institute bothers me so much, still does. I will never ever like that change. Also, I can't remember very well, but Hodge didn't get hurt when he spoke of the Circle and stuff in the books right? I don't think he did. Why add that? It does nothing to further the plot either.

Okay the real thing that bothered me this episode was Clary's necklace. So if she touches it, it shows her where Dot is? What? Also, who is Dot? She's still not really done much. Seriously though, that necklace.... what is the propose? Ugh. Also, this may be kind of mean but I laughed my butt off when I saw the actress playing Clary trying to run in those high heels. They should just give her normal shoes, or maybe something she can actually run in. I'm not sure who called the shot for her to wear those high heels that she clearly can't run in very well. Though I'm not picking on the actress, I sure as hell couldn't run in those shoes either. I'd look just as silly.

So I guess that's really it for this episode. I will admit that I just skimmed it. After the first episode I just felt so disheartened. But as I said before, this episode was better than the first. So hopefully they keep getting better and better and then the show will be good.

I will leave you with my favorite line from the episode, said none other than Jace. Well, if you want to call him that.

Shadowhunters! Episode 1 Rant

So I plan to do this after every episode of Shadowhunters. I love this series so much and I want them to do it right. So I'm going to kind of recap/review every single episode. I will be posting them every Wednesday. So be sure to check it out and join me, come discuss your thoughts, what you liked, what you didn't. I do want to warn you all though, there will be spoilers. So be careful if you've not watched the first episode yet.

I want to start off by saying that my thoughts aren't the most popular. I was checking Twitter out last night and most people loved the first episode. They were so excited and couldn't wait for more. But I didn't... it had a few okay moments that I liked but to me.... I just don't understand how hard it is to take an AMAZING book series and make it come to life? I mean, the movie was better than the first episode and the movie was kind of awful. Am I along in my thoughts about this show? I've not seen the second episode yet, I know you can watch it now on the Free Form app and I'll watch it sometime today. I'm willing to give this show a few more episodes and if it doesn't get better... I'll give up hope about ever seeing this book series done right.

This episode was called 'The Mortal Cup.' They changed Clary's age but that I'm fine with. She's also trying to get into the Brooklyn Academy of Art. Which is also a perfect idea. What I don't like is how in the first few minutes we see her use her gift. They leave nothing out.

I have a love hate relationship with how they made Luke a police officer. It's actually really cool and he seems like a total badass. I love the guy playing Luke, well done! But also... he had a bookstore! Why would they change that?!

Something that really bothers me is the Steele...... her mother would never have given her that. I mean, I hate that the writers did that. Bad move! Awful! Just ugh! Not to mention her freaking mother shows her the rune! Yeah because her mother would so do that. Makes perfect sense for her character. Not. I do like that she actually got to kick some ass though. I was happy with that. Though setting her room on fire?

Magnus owns the club that everything goes down in. Which doesn't really bother me at all. I could see him owning a club. Yeah. Also, what I've started to call them and even my little sister agrees, The Lightsaber Swords? Really? I mean really?

Then there the Institute! Don't even get me started there!

Sadly, I kind of knew this would happen... when the announced who was going to play Jace. Have any of you seen the horrible movie called Vampire Academy? Yeah, he played in there. So I think he's an awful Jace. Clary seems too.... okay I should stop, let me go with the very few things I actually liked so this just doesn't look like a total rip fest.

Valentine. I've seen Alan van Sprang in Reign and just loved him! He's a perfect Valentine! Just yes!!!! That was a perfect choice! Plus, I've missed seeing him since he left Reign. Also, like I said before, the man playing Luke is awesome! More how I see Luke in my head, such a strong badass and yes! Great choice there too.

I like the girl playing Izzy but I don't like how underused she was. In the first part they kind of made her seem like... well....  to be frank, a skanky ditz, which I hate because Izzy is such a freaking awesome badass and I think this actress has the skills to really bring Izzy to life. So there I blame terrible writing.

So my main problems are, Jace, Clary, the Institute, and The Lightsaber Swords. I will continue to give this show another chance because, who knows? Maybe the rest will be good and the first episode was just utter crap. Also, who is Dot?

I shall now leave you with my favorite line from the night.
"Is there a meth problem we need to talk about?"
This made me laugh my butt off! I swear Simon and his jokes about meth in this episode just made all the awful stuff better.

December Wrap Up!

I did not read many books this month, only three. I've been so busy with my now full time job, Christmas, classes, my father's birthday, and getting sick. So I've not got to blog or even read much at all. I've not read a single book so far this year and it's sad. It's caused me to get into a reading slump as well. I have so much I want to read but I look at the book and just sigh. It makes me feel like why bother? I'll just have to stop reading and go to work. It would take me a whole week or more to read a book and by that point I'm afraid I've forgotten most of the beginning.

I've just got to find that good balance to reading and balancing mundane life. If any of you guys do the same, give me some tips in the comments! I could use them. Anyway, off to the three books I read in December.

Also tell me what you guys read this part month below in the comments. Also, I've missed you all! I've got a lot to catch up on so be looking out for me to comment on your blogs.

Alice in Murderland Volume 1 - Review

Now! Let the "Mad Tea Party" begin!

The Kuonji clan, owner of one of the world's top conglomerates, has a tradition: Once a month, family members attend a "Mad Tea Party." But at the latest gathering, the nine Kuonji siblings in attendance are shocked to hear a pronouncement issue from the lips of their mother, Olga-

"I'd like you children to now fight one another to the death!"

As chaos erupts, Stella, the fourth daughter, loses all reason, and suddenly a whole new Stella, complete with blonde hair and blue dress, comes out to play-!!

Author: Kaori Yuki
Genre: Gothic Horror (Manga)
Format: Hardcover
Release Date: 06/23/2015
Publisher: Yen Press

Manga Breakdown

So this manga starts off with a huge murder scene that makes no sense until later in the volume. Then we cut to our main character; Stella, in a classroom. She asks to leave suddenly because she had a family tea party to attend, one they have every month. Her classmates chalk it up to her being from the famous Kuonji family. They assume it's what all rich people do.

This tea party is special though, it's her eldest and favorite brother's nineteenth birthday. Their mother drops a huge bomb on them, only one of them can inherit the title as head of this powerful family. How to decide who wins? The last one standing. That's right, the adopted siblings will have to kill each other will only one remains. What a lovely family. Not.

No one likes this idea and Stella doesn't want to play this game but when Sid, the second oldest, kills Zeno, the oldest: Stella transforms into 'Bloody Alice' and kills his transformed state 'Jack the Ripper'. Their mother has been slipping something into their drinks every month, something that can allow them to live forever... if they keep taking at least once a month, or they will die. This also allows them to transform into this other person, thing. Not sure really.

Stella makes a pact with her mother to bring Zeno back to life and she'll win by killing all the others. Zeno will become her partner, the same way her mother kept their farther as her partner. This is the reason that each sibling was told bring their favorite person to the tea party.

So with Zeno back, though he's changed. He's not the brother she once loved anymore. That and the fact that she'd still freaking out over Blood Alice, makes things hard on her. There is a boy from the beginning that comes into play now though. Watching over Stella, helping her to see who really killed Sid's girlfriend. It wasn't Zeno, whom she thought might have eaten her.

Their family is kind of like vampires taking the life force from people, she thinks that what she did to Sid when she killed him. But Stella uses her brains and takes the advice of her new lookout and finds who really killed Sid's girlfriend and the is manga ends in a face off between the two. I can't wait to see who wins, though I'm sure it's Bloody Alice, Otherwise, there would be no series, makes sense to me.

I really like this manga, it's kind of confusing and I had to read it twice to fully grasp it but it's awesome. The action scenes are the best. I've been a fan of this mangka since Angel Sanctuary. I love the dark gothic feel she adds to everything. All the characters are clear cut and seem like their own selves which I love. All in all, I enjoyed this manga. I'd say give it a short. Did I mention it's hardcover!? Finally a hardcover manga! It's so beautiful!
