Falling Kingdoms - Review

In the three kingdoms of Mytica, magic has long been forgotten. And while hard-won peace has reigned for centuries, a deadly unrest now simmers below the surface.

As the rulers of each kingdom grapple for power, the lives of their subjects are brutally transformed... and four key players, royals and rebels alike, find their fates forever intertwined. Cleo, Jonas, Lucia, and Magnus are caught in a dizzying world of treacherous betrayals, shocking murders, secret alliances, and even unforeseen love.

The only outcome that's certain is that kingdoms will fall. Who will emerge triumphant when all they know has collapsed?

Princess: Raised in pampered luxury, Cleo must now embark on a rough and treacherous journey into enemy territory in search of magic long thought extinct.

Rebel: Jonas, enraged at injustice, lashes out against the forces of oppression that have kept his country cruelly impoverished. To his shock, he finds himself the leader of a people's revolution centuries in the making.

Sorceress: Lucia, adopted at birth into the royal family, discovers the truth about her past—and the supernatural legacy she is destined to wield.

Heir: Bred for aggression and trained to conquer, firstborn son Magnus begins to realize that the heart can be more lethal than the sword....

Book Breakdown
*SPOILER ALERT*

I didn't know this series even existed until I saw it floating around booktube, then it was everywhere. So I did what I always do with new books I know nothing about, I went to Goodreads and checked it out before snagging myself a copy from Amazon. I also bought my sister a copy as she said it looked pretty good too. It was well worth the buy. I've since bought two more, all I need is the last one.

Mystica isn't doing so well these days. Paelsia is slowly dying out and Limeros is pretty much a frozen wasteland. Auranos' is the only one doing great as of late with their golden palace. Even the Watches Sanctuary is starting to see negative effects. All because of greed. Two greedy watchers who wanted more power long ago. The watchers search for others like them, maybe even someone how can help them find the kindred.  The kindred are four powerful crystals that contain the four elements. These crystals could return their world back into something beautiful and thriving.

Enough back story though, let's just jump into it. Our adventure takes off with Cleo, who's on a ship with Aron -her soon to be betrothed- to sail to Paelsia in search of some really great wine. That leads to Aron killing a boy which kicks off the whole plot of this story. It starts a war. Paelsia is upset and the late boy's younger brother; Jonas, wants revenge.

Magnus is the prince of Limeros. He doesn't care much for anything except for one very important person, his younger sister; Lucia. Who isn't what she thought she was, not even close.. She's a powerful sorceress, one whose birth for foretold many years ago. Will Magus be able to get over his feelings for his sister? Does she feel the same?

This story is very character driven and these four characters actually grow throughout the course of this novel. Which is really awesome! It ends on a cliffhanger that made me grab the next book right after, I just had to know what was going to happen!

I hope that Jonas gets his way and that the king of Limeros goes down! I don't like him at all. He's the villain in this world and sadly, so far everything seems to be going his way. My only downside to this book, is I wanted more romance. I expected more romance I should say. This book doesn't really have any. I mean there is a tiny bit before the love interest is killed. There is so much awesome action and behind the scenes evil plotting. It's a great and fun ride. The writing is so easy to follow and flows perfectly. I love how the author brings each character into the plot and the parts they each play are perfect!

If you haven't read this book yet than you should remedy that like yesterday! It's a great book!

2) “Even in the darkest and most cruel person, there is still a kernel of good. And within the most perfect champion, there is darkness. The question is, will one give in to the dark or the light? It's something we decide with every choice we make, every day that we exist. What might not be evil to you could be evil to someone else. Knowing this makes us powerful even without magic.”

3) “Hate is such a strong emotion. Much more powerful than indifference. But those who burn with hate can also love just as intensely. Can't they? When you hate--or love--do you do so with all your heart? So much that it feels as if you might die from it?”

Where Do I Buy Cheap Books? (Top 6)

This was actually requested in a few comments like forever ago but I'm been so busy with work, classes, and my grandmama. We found out she had colon cancer but thankfully, they were able to do surgery and it's all gone. Which is such a relief!

Now onto the places, I get cheap books from! Most are online because sadly, there is only one good cheap bookstore close to me. Which is awesome. It's called Half Price Books and if you have one close and haven't been.... I must ask, why? What are you doing with your life? I got the whole Blue Blood series from there for less than (US)$10 and all but the first where hardcover. No joke. Awesome place. They do also have an online site so be sure and check that out.

Now for the online places, which I use more than anything else. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE book stores, but sadly there isn't many around me. I have Barnes & Noble but everything there is cover price and when you don't have the most money, you have to try and get as many books as cheap as you can. I'm usually a fast reader. Reading at least two books a week if I'm having a good week.

So, here is a list of the best websites that I know of. If you guys know of any that I haven't mentioned, leave the links below, sharing is caring! I actually look at a lot of websites before buying a book. Sometimes though, if I want the book that badly, I will simply go to Target and grab it. Sometimes you just got to have the book now, right?

This website is awesome, free (US) shipping on orders over $10. They have used books that can less than $5 and they even sell new books but they're usually cover price. Used books are the way to go here. Every used book I've bought from here is like brand new.

I love this site! I always buy new from here because they are just so cheap! If you've been following my Twitter or seen my latest book haul, than you know the deals I've gotten. There is no free shipping on this site though. Shipping starts out $3.99 (US) for two books.

This site is hit and miss. I've found some great buys on here and other times they suck. I actually got my sister the whole TMI series on ebay, brand new for only $15.00. Epic.

This one is a given. You can find cheap books on here if you look. I got Shatter Me for around $5. Not to mention that the new releases are usually cheaper and if you have Prime, free two day shipping is awesome.

This site is pretty cool too. They have more than just books but when I last checked they had Glass Sword for only $13.99. Brand new, hardcover. Not bad really if you ask me. Though in this case, Amazon is still cheaper by a dollar. Like I said before, I check many sites before buying a book. Always trying to find the cheapest.

I know a lot of people will ask why I didn't add Book Depository to this list, the answer is simple, I ordered from there once and the book never arrived. So I contacted them and they nicely sent me out another copy.... which also never got here either. So I sent them another email and they just refunded me, I've never ordered from them again nor will I ever recommend it. Which is sad, I was so excited to use that site and get the cool UK editions of my favorite books. But that site is just not my friend.

So this is the list, I'm sure there are more that I'm forgetting at the moment but if you can't find the book you're looking for out of these sites than that's kind of sad actually. Hope this list is helpful and it aids you on your book buying journey!

Happy reading my lovely sunflowers!

3 Favorite Books of 2015

This is is not in any certain order. I just wanted to show off my 3 favorite books of the past year. These are all books that came out in 2015. Let me know below what your favorite books of the past year was below in the comments.

This book. This wonderfully amazing book! I love every single part of it. It stole my heart and I can't wait for A Court of Mist and Fury! This is honestly probably my favorite book of 2015. It was also my first Sarah J Maas book. I loved her writing so much that it got me to read her Throne of Glass series.

This ended perfectly. I wouldn't change one single part of this book. It will forever be one of my favorites.

I was so surprised by this book! I honestly didn't know how good it would be. I'm not the biggest fan of sci-fi but the format was what pulled me in. It's told in such a unique way and the story just sucks you in. I laughed, cried, and found that even after my eyes were killing me, I could not put this book down.

Fangirl - Review

A coming-of-age tale of fan fiction, family and first love.

Cath is a Simon Snow fan.

Okay, the whole world is a Simon Snow fan...

But for Cath, being a fan is her life—and she’s really good at it. She and her twin sister, Wren, ensconced themselves in the Simon Snow series when they were just kids; it’s what got them through their mother leaving.

Reading. Rereading. Hanging out in Simon Snow forums, writing Simon Snow fan fiction, dressing up like the characters for every movie premiere.

Cath’s sister has mostly grown away from fandom, but Cath can’t let go. She doesn’t want to.

Now that they’re going to college, Wren has told Cath she doesn’t want to be roommates. Cath is on her own, completely outside of her comfort zone. She’s got a surly roommate with a charming, always-around boyfriend, a fiction-writing professor who thinks fan fiction is the end of the civilized world, a handsome classmate who only wants to talk about words... And she can’t stop worrying about her dad, who’s loving and fragile and has never really been alone.

For Cath, the question is: Can she do this?

Can she make it without Wren holding her hand? Is she ready to start living her own life? Writing her own stories?

And does she even want to move on if it means leaving Simon Snow behind?

Book Breakdown

Cather is a huge fangirl. Her twin, Wren used to be one too. They used to do everything together. But now it's time for college and Wren wants everything separate. Wren already has a roommate and when they get there, she barely makes time for Cather... unless it's to pick on her love of Simon Snow.

Simon Snow's a huge book series about mages....  yes, it's totally based off Harry Potter. That's so easy to see. Cather loves writing Simon Snow fan fiction. Hopefully, all of you know what fan fiction is. Even if you've never written any. It almost seems like it's her entire life and she's super popular with her fic too.

This book is really just about her finding the balance with her fic writing and the real world. Which is what I took from it at least. It deals with so many real world issues, drinking, depression, and even anxiety. Also abandonment issues are peppered through the book. I really like how accepting all the characters where once they found out Cather wrote fanfiction. I can't help but wonder if that's how people in the real world would act. I mean, Luke never once picks on her. It's even so cute how they bound through it.

When a few of my friends found out that I was writing K-pop fanfiction (like 3-4 years ago), they picked on me so much. Not just teasing, but like really mean. I ended up having to stop being friends with them. Not nice people. So my question is, was my experience just a very rare and sad one or have any of you had that happen to them? I will say that I did make a few good friends through fanfiction, though when I quit writing, they stopped talking to me. Yeah, anyway, off topic.

I really love Cather! She never gave into peer pressure, stayed strong when others were drinking or doing drugs. I admire that so much! We need more role models like Cather! I could just go on and on about how freaking awesome she is!

This novel is perfect for any fangirl out there. You will find yourself relating to Cather and falling in love with Luke. He's just so cute and understanding. There are some really great messages in this book. There is at least one part of this novel that everyone will connect with. So much happens.

I actually took this book with me to work, reading it when my boss wasn't looking. I know I shouldn't have, but I found it hurt to put it down. My hands would just ache to hold it once more and my eyes wanted to seep all the words in.

Every fangirl should read this book. You will not regret it!

Favorite Quotes

1) “In new situations, all the trickiest rules are the ones nobody bothers to explain to you. (And the ones you can't Google.)”

2) “You’ve read the books?”
“I’ve seen the movies.”
Cath rolled her eyes so hard, it hurt. (Actually.) (Maybe because she was still on the edge of tears. On the edge, period.) “So you haven’t read the books.”
“I’m not really a book person.”
“That might be the most idiotic thing you’ve ever said to me.”

3) “How do you not like the Internet? That's like saying, 'I don't like things that are convenient. And easy. I don't like having access to all of mankind's recorded discoveries at my fingertips. I don't like light. And knowledge.”

4) “What's the plan?" she asked.
He grinned. "My plan is to do things that make you want to hang out with me again tomorrow. What's your plan?"
"I'm going to try not to make an ass of myself."
He grinned. "So we're all set.”

3 Disappointing Books of 2015

These books that I've listened aren't bad, but they were just a let down. I still liked some of them but they weren't as good as I thought. If you love any of these books that's great and I hope my own personal opinion and I'm not trying to offend anyone. This is just my own personal thoughts and feelings.

Now, I actually enjoyed this book. It was a fun and very quick read. But all the hype around it. I expected more, a lot more. It really just feels like a few popular YA novels thrown into one. I think it's way overhyped. Sometimes, hype can really kill a book to me. I know a lot of you will disagree with this but it's just my opinion. It's also the reason I've not ran and bough Glass Sword yet. It by no means was a bad book, just as good as everyone goes on about.

First off I want to say that I love the first three in this series. Some of my favorite guilty pleasure reads. So I was so excited for this! I get to stay longer in one of my favorite worlds! Yay! Then I started into this book... WTF? America's daughter is such a spoiled little brat and I found myself wanting to smack her so much my wrist hurt just from the thought. I mean, I get it, she is a princess who was raised in luxury and all that. So was Maxon and he wasn't an ass. I'm hoping that she gets an attitude make over in the next book. Make her more likable.

I had high hopes this one, I love this author, I mean Vampire Academy is freaking awesome! I love Asian culture and this was my cup of tea but.... just no. I don't even really know what to say about this book. I wanted so much! I mean a standalone?! That doesn't happen much in YA but it broke my heart.

That's it! What books were you disappointed by last year buttercups? Let me know below, I love hearing your thoughts.

January 2016 Book Haul

So I've decided to just do a monthly book haul. Where I gather all the books I bought that month and just show them all in one post instead of a bunch. Makes it easier. So I got 11 books in the month of January. I got them all these from either ebay.com or bookoutlet.com for super cheap. If you don't use bookoutlet than you need too. Every book lover should check out that site.

This was only like $5.99 (US) I believe when I bought it. Hardcover. Brand new. How awesome is that!?

I got the original covers because even though most people hate them, I LOVE them. I don't even know why but they just speak to me I guess.

This got free from the author. It sounded so good that I can't wait to read it!

I also got this in hardcover. Yeah I have like three of each book in different versions. No regrets.

I love the TV show Charmed. I enjoy the first three seasons the best when Prue was around but the rest is just as good. So I finally decided to break down and get the comic series. Next I need to get the Buffy ones.... why is there so many great books but never enough time or money? Or space.... there is never enough space either.

I also bought the Trylle box set because I've been hearing a lot about this books and they are mostly good things. Also it was only $9.99(US) on bookoutlet. Yeah, lots of good deals on that site. Seriously.

That's all I got for the month of January, I've been trying to cut back my book buying. My boyfriend says it's getting out of hand and I'm also running out of bookshelf space... yeah. So far this month, I've bought no books at all. That's huge for me! What new books have you recently?

Manga Monday (5)

1) What is Manga?

A style of Japanese comic books and graphic novels, typically aimed at adults as well as children.

2) What is Manhwa?

It's a general Korean term for comics and print cartoons (common usage also includes animated cartoons). Outside of Korea, the term usually refers specifically to South Korean comics.

He loves her blood, but does her love her?! Misao is starting to trust her heart where Kyo is involved, especially after he gives her one of his primary feathers. It isn't just her first present from him, it's a magic talisman that will keep her safe when he's not nearby! Misao is elated to be able to go to school without the fear of being eaten, just like a normal teenage girl. But as her feelings for Kyo deepen, she starts to realize that as his bride she will have to leave her human life behind--including her family!

Mangaka: Kanoko Sakurakouji
Format: Paperback
Page Count: 200
Publisher: VIZ Media
Published: 02/02/2010
Number in Series: 3

Manga Breakdown

Misao's troubled because she loves Kyo but doesn't know what would happen if they get married and consummate their union. Would she have to leave her friends and family behind forever? She doesn't want him to know, worried he might think she doesn't love him. Which isn't the case, she's just so scared of the unknown.

Kyo gives Misao a pendant, made with one of his primary feathers. This is a very special ordeal as he can't lose too many of those or he couldn't fly anymore. Misao's happy because the feather will keep her safe from demons when Kyo's not around. She can finally walk to school without fear! Just like a normal girl.

Sadly, the happiness is short lived as Kuzu reappears. He says he's given up on Misao but Kyo doesn't trust him and demands to see the Senka Roku. The Senka Roku is the account of the Kuzunoha's clan bride taking 300 years ago. It will show what Kyo and Misao are to expect from their future together.

Kuzu tricks Misao into coming to his house, promising to let her read the Senka Roku. Instead, he tried to take her by force but Kyo saves the day as he always does. But things go from bad to worse for our couple, when Kuzu teams up with Kiyo and Kensuke. They want their revenge! Though Kensuke is nothing like they thought. He actually tries to help Misao but Kyo ends up killing Kuzu, using his power to cut off the fox's arm before slicing his throat. Misao gets badly hurt during this whole little action scene which leads to hot make out session between our couple.

Meanwhile, Kensuke offers to tell Kyo's clan about the Senka Roku or at least the part until they finally have sex, because that's all he saw of the book.

That's the end! Seriously!? What a freaking cliff hanger! I mean, I want to know what Kensuke has to say. Will our couple be safe to be together or will it be as Misao fears? I want to know so bad! So if you read this, make sure you have volume four in hand ready to go. You'll need it!

There are some things in this volume that I didn't care for. How Kyo has to keep saving Misao all the damn time. I mean come on girl! Stand up for yourself! Get smart! Don't follow your boyfriend's enemy home no matter what the loser says! You should know better! That's my only problem with this manga honestly, Misao is just so weak. Falling into every trap and just being plain stupid.

There is some pretty graphic scenes in here, the beheading and the make out session. Nothing is actually shown for the later so don't panic if that's not your thing. It's still clean enough. This manga is rated 16+ which means 16 or older and I think that's right. The rating fits perfectly. Also, if you're a mature young reader, I think this volume would be fine for you too. It's graphic but not like 'omg I will never be able to unsee this!'

I highly enjoy this series and can't wait to continue. It's becoming one of my favorites quickly.

2 Mini Reviews (Twin Reflections and Five Seven Five)

*I received this book in exchange for an honest review*

This book surprised me! I wasn't too sure what to think by the blurb, it sounded like a good read but then again it was so vague... but let me tell you now; this book is so good! It spends quite a bit of time setting the world up and then everything kicks in. The romance... I actually really enjoyed it.

This book gave me a few The Giver vibes but in the best way. The Giver is one of my favorite books from my childhood. So for this book to receive that kind of praise is not something one should take lightly.

I don't want to give any spoilers
but I will say that Kaz is my favorite character and I'm sure if you read the book you will agree. It's a quick read, only a little over 200 pages and it reads even faster than that. You will not want to stop reading this book until it's over and then you'll want more. The reason I take off one star was a few little parts were confusing and I had to go back and reread them to figure them out. Otherwise it's a great, fun read!

I didn't want to mention this because I didn't want to give it a good rating just because if the author's age but I just had to. She's only 14 and the thing is, it doesn't show. I would never have known that this author is so young. The way she builds the world, the way the words flow. How she puts together the sentences. Amazing! At her age I was not anywhere near her level.

The story is quite imaginative, twins in search of their camp director. It's such a fun cute tale. I love how this book wastes no time in jumping right into the action. It's also a quick read as it's less than 200 pages. So this book can easily be read in one sitting and you will want to! It's hard to put down, though I do remove a star because the maze scenes are sometimes a bit hard to follow.

I love the characters the most, she did a great job of making them feel flushed out. Leaving me to feel I know them well after the story was over. This is a cute little book, anyone who loves young YA fantasy or even middle grade fantasy will devour this! Ii can't wait to see what else this promising young author releases in the future. Lastly, I'm just going to add that I'm now a fan!

January 2016 Wrap Up

Surprisingly, I got to read a lot this month, even with my grandmother in the hospital, work, and classes. I read seven books. Which for me is super good and I'm actually proud of this. The reviews for most of these books should be up before too long. I need to get back into blogging regularly because I miss it and miss reading and commenting on your blogs as well. So without further ado, let's get into the books I read in January. Let me know below what you read or if you've read any of the books below and your thoughts on them.

This isn't the best manga series by far but for some reason I keep reading it, even though I know it's never going to get finished. /Sigh

No words for this.... it was just pure Daemon perfection. Loved every freaking page!

You can just read my thoughts here if you haven't already.

I have so much to say about this book... be on the lookout for my review. You won't want to miss it!

This book! OMG THIS BOOK! I love this book so much. The ending left me wanting more though. I will say to me, it was a weird place to end.

I received this book from the author and she's only 14!!! It's a really good book. I should have the review up soon.

This is also a book I received from the author. It surprised me! Such a good book! Review will also be up soon!

That's it my sunflowers. This is all I read this month. As I said before, I'm actually proud of what I read.
