4 Year Blogiversary

It's been 4 years this month since I started my blog. On one hand, it doesn't feel like it should be that long and on the other, it feels like I've been blogging for longer. It's become such a part of who I am, that sometimes I don't even think about it. I just know I have to blog.

I've seen the book community go through quite a few ups and downs and right now, I consider us going through a bit of a down but I know we will pull through and be stronger than ever, we always do.

I have found some amazing reads from my fours years on this book, like one of my all time favorite series, ACOTAR. I've changed the name of this blog from The Book Goddess to The Butterfly Reader. I've made it up to four big bookshelves and two little ones (then sold two whole giant bookshelves and the little ones). I've gone through three jobs since I started this blog and really miss the first one. I wish they'd not have closed it down.

I've even gone through a horrible life changing experience but my blog has always been here and it's my little piece of the internet where I can escape and say whatever I want, where I can gush and rant about books and talk to you... so that I feel less alone in my love of books.

Four years... well, here to another four years. I can't wait to see what other books we'll read and get to talk about.

Top Ten Tuesday - Platonic Relationships In Books

This meme is now hosted over at That Artsy Reader Girl.

Hello little butterflies! It's been a while since I've done this meme, honestly it's been a while since I've done much anything besides reviews. I hope to get back into the swing of things. Now onto the topic!

I don't usually think about about platonic relationships much, I more think about couples as I love romance but I do have a few that I really love. These aren't in any order really, just ones I wanted to share with you. There also won't be ten. Not even close.

Cam and Teresa Hamilton
I just love the way these two siblings interact and how they love each other so much. I wish I had a brother or sister like them.

 Rose & Lissa
They have such an amazing friendship that I envy.

Garrett, Logan, Dean, and Tucker
They are more than just teammates, they are great friends and help each other out. I love their relationship.

Celeste, Madeline, & Jane
I love how these guys just hang out and slowly learn to open up and trust each other and just how they close ranks when all the secrets come out.

Music Monday - Songs That Help My Anxiety

This meme is hosted over at Always Me.

I have terrible anxiety. It gets so bad sometimes that I lose my mind, scared that I'm going to die. I've been getting better at taking control of it, trying not to let it get to me that badly and these songs help. If you're like me, hopefully they help you too.

#Smutathon TBR

I found this out through Twitter but it's two Booktubers that host. When I found this, it made my little heart so happy, I can get behind this readathon! Now, don't let the title fool you, it's not actually smut, just any romance book that has a sex scene in it. So a book like A Court of Mist and Fury, would count, even though it't not an erotic book.

This is hosted by Lainey from gingerreadslainey and Riley from Riley Marie.

Dates: December 10th-16th

1) Enemies to Lovers
2) Friends with Benefits
3) Fake Relationship
4) Slow Burn
5) Forbidden
6) Different Worlds
7) ?

The 7th is one that you can vote for and I voted for Workplace Romance, hopefully it wins. So until I know which troupe has won, I won't choose any books for it.

Here is my choices for the challenges:

Enemies to Lovers - St-St-Stuffed
Other than his most prized Lamborghini, Karl Andrews has nothing to his name. He’s down on his luck and his dollar, and his dream of becoming a professional chef is looking more and more like a pipe-dream. Even less than a pipe-dream when restaurants won’t even take him on as a waiter.
And he won’t ever, no not ever, consider selling his one possession. No matter how much he could make from it. Just wasn’t going to happen.
He’d rather . . . rather . . .
Hell, he’d rather apply for that position to be a Girl Friday.

Other than the title, the job sounds all right. Bit of cooking, cleaning—nothing he can’t handle.
Until he goes to the interview and discovers the man looking for the help is the same man he’d bullied, mocked, terrified as a boy. But Paul Hyte is obviously a better man, gracious and forgiving. And trusting—as the biggest part of the job requires looking after his son.

Despite the initial forgiveness, things are tentative between Karl and Paul, and they’ve both got to reconcile their pasts if they want any type of proper closure. As the two men learn more about each other an undeniable attraction grows between them—but can the two manage to forge a future together on such a rocky past and complicated present?

Friends with Benefits - The Goal (Off-Campus #4)
She’s good at achieving her goals…

College senior Sabrina James has her whole future planned out: graduate from college, kick butt in law school, and land a high-paying job at a cutthroat firm. Her path to escaping her shameful past certainly doesn’t include a gorgeous hockey player who believes in love at first sight. One night of sizzling heat and surprising tenderness is all she’s willing to give John Tucker, but sometimes, one night is all it takes for your entire life to change.

But the game just got a whole lot more complicated...

Tucker believes being a team player is as important as being the star. On the ice, he’s fine staying out of the spotlight, but when it comes to becoming a daddy at the age of twenty-two, he refuses to be a bench warmer. It doesn’t hurt that the soon-to-be mother of his child is beautiful, whip-smart, and keeps him on his toes. The problem is, Sabrina’s heart is locked up tight, and the fiery brunette is too stubborn to accept his help. If he wants a life with the woman of his dreams, he’ll have to convince her that some goals can only be made with an assist.

Fake Relationship - Tempting the Player
He's a player on and off the field...

Chad Gamble, all-star pitcher for the Nationals, is one of the best players on—and off—the field. And right now, the notorious bad boy wants Bridget Rodgers. But with her lush curves and snappy comebacks, the feisty redhead is the kind of woman a man wants to settle down with…and that’s the last thing Chad needs.

When the paparazzi catch them in a compromising position, Chad’s manager issues an ultimatum: clean up his act or kiss his multi-million dollar contract goodbye. To save his career, his meddling publicist says he'll have to convince everyone Bridget isn’t just his flavor of the week, but his girlfriend.

Being blackmailed into a fake relationship with Chad Gamble isn’t easy, especially when the sizzling physical attraction between them is undeniable. With a month to go on their arranged pretense, it's going to take every ounce of willpower they have not to fall into bed together...or in love.

Slow Burn - The Wall of Winnipeg and Me
Vanessa Mazur knows she's doing the right thing. She shouldn't feel bad for quitting. Being an assistant/housekeeper/fairy godmother to the top defensive end in the National Football Organization was always supposed to be temporary. She has plans and none of them include washing extra-large underwear longer than necessary.

But when Aiden Graves shows up at her door wanting her to come back, she's beyond shocked.

For two years, the man known as The Wall of Winnipeg couldn't find it in him to tell her good morning or congratulate her on her birthday. Now? He's asking for the unthinkable.

What do you say to the man who is used to getting everything he wants?

Forbidden - Stepbrother Dearest
You’re not supposed to want the one who torments you.

When my stepbrother, Elec, came to live with us my senior year, I wasn’t prepared for how much of a jerk he’d be.

I hated that he took it out on me because he didn’t want to be here.
I hated that he brought girls from our high school back to his room.
But what I hated the most was the unwanted way my body reacted to him.

At first, I thought all he had going for him were his rock-hard tattooed abs and chiseled face. Then, things started changing between us, and it all came to a head one night.

Just as quickly as he’d come into my life, he was gone back to California.

It had been years since I’d seen Elec.

When tragedy struck our family, I’d have to face him again.

And holy hell, the teenager who made me crazy was now a man that drove me insane.

I had a feeling my heart was about to get broken again.

Stepbrother Dearest is a standalone novel.

**Contains graphic sexual content and harsh language. It is only appropriate for adult readers age 18+

Different Worlds - The Darkest Night
His powers - Inhuman...

His passion - Beyond immortal...

All her life, Ashlyn Darrow has been tormented by voices from the past. To end the nightmare, she has come to Budapest seeking help from men rumored to have supernatural abilities, not knowing she'll be swept into the arms of Maddox, their most dangerous member -- a man trapped in a hell of his own.

Neither can resist the instant hunger than calms their torments... and ignites an irresistible passion. But every heated touch and burning kiss will edge them closer to destruction -- and a soul-shattering test of love...
Though they carry an eternal curse, the Lords of the Underworld are irresistibly seductive -- and unimaginably powerful...

50/50 Friday - Favorite/Least Book with Food on the Cover

50/50 Friday is hosted here on this blog and over at Blue Eye Books.

I hope that all my American friends had a great Thanksgiving and enjoyed this wonderful holiday with all your friends and family and great food! Now, moving on!

What is 50/50 Friday?
Everyone has a favorite and then we also have something we dislike. Like a coin, there are two sides to every question. Example: best sequel you've read/worst sequel you've read. So that's what 50/50 Friday is all about. We will have a new topic every Friday. If you have have ideas for this meme don't be scared to let us know!

I know this series is bad, like it's awful but it's one of my guilty pleasures, it's bad but it's like that chocolate that you know you shouldn't eat but you do anyway and you love every single sinful bite.

Least Favorite
I enjoyed the first series but this spin off series just wasn't quite what I thought it would be... sadly.

My Bought Virgin Wife - Mini ARC Review

She’s mine…

But will her innocence break all my rules?

I’ve never wanted anything like I want heiress Imogen Fitzalan. I married her to secure my empire—but my untouched wife has ignited an undeniable hunger in me. Desire beyond reason wasn’t my plan, yet now I have a new aim: to strip away her obedience, and replace it with a fierce passion to match my own…

Feel the heat in this intense marriage of convenience romance.

ARC Breakdown

This was almost a perfect little romance novel! So freaking close! If not for the end where he runs off and leaves her alone for a long time....

Anyway, Imogen Fitzalan has never fit in, with her family, or the high society that she'd forced into. Now she's being forced to marry a man she doesn't know. A man that had once wanted to marry her older half sister... yeah, sounds crazy right? Well, it's all cute. Javier was actually a really nice guy, I felt so badly for him, growing up the way he did and it makes sense as to why he acts the way he does. It fits him perfectly, even if I did want to shake him and tell him to just open up and not run!

Overall, it's a sweet little novel that will have you smiling in the end. Thanks to NetGalley for this title in exchange for an honest review.

Guilty Pleasure Movies & TV Shows

I did this for books not long ago and thought I would do this for TV shows and movies. Hope you'll join me and let me know if you love any of these!

Jennifer's Body
This was such a flop but I loved it! I still think it's such a great dark comedy.

Gossip Girl (TV)
I found this show not long ago but I loved it even though I know it's not good. It pulled me in and I sucked in every episode.

Underworld (Movie Series)
Again, I didn't realize how bad these movies were till my partner pointed it out (he's helped me see that a lot of my visual media is guilty pleasures).

The Arrangement (TV)
This one is so bad that even I know it's bad! That being said, it still has me watching and waiting to know what will happen next but I'll admit to liking this show, ever. Except for this post.

City of Bones (Movie)
This one doesn't need much because I'm sure you've seen it but yeah, it's bad, but I still love it!

Dynasty (TV)
This show was what inspired the whole post. It's based off a soap opera from the 80's, so with that in mind, you know it's not good but it's so freaking entertaining!

Resident Evil (Movie Series)
Another movie series that I know isn't good, the plot is kind of messed up and laughable at times but it's something I can watch and enjoy over and over again. Except the last one... it's too bad even for me.

Dollhouse (TV)
Sadly, this series got cancelled over after two seasons so the rest of the world thinks it's pretty bad but I wish it had stayed on because I loved it so much. Plus, Eliza Dushku is tied for my biggest girl crush along with Amy Lee.

Dirty Dancing: Havana Nights (Movie)
Please don't hate me for what I say next... it's only my opinion. I hate Dirty Dancing, the character of Baby made me want to stab myself in the eye, I didn't like her but I did like this one, I'm like the only one in the world that prefers this one but I've always been weird.

Least Favorite
DANICA SHARDAE IS an avian shapeshifter, and the golden hawk’s form in which she takes to the sky is as natural to her as the human one that graces her on land. The only thing more familiar to her is war: It has raged between her people and the serpiente for so long, no one can remember how the fighting began. As heir to the avian throne, she’ll do anything in her power to stop this war—even accept Zane Cobriana, the terrifying leader of her kind’s greatest enemy, as her pair bond and make the two royal families one.

Trust. It is all Zane asks of Danica—and all they ask of their people—but it may be more than she can give.
I read this years ago and something about just wasn't for me. There's nothing wrong with it, just not my cup of tea.

About three things I was absolutely positive.

First, Edward was a vampire.

Second, there was a part of him—and I didn't know how dominant that part might be—that thirsted for my blood.

And third, I was unconditionally and irrevocably in love with him.

In the first book of the Twilight Saga, internationally bestselling author Stephenie Meyer introduces Bella Swan and Edward Cullen, a pair of star-crossed lovers whose forbidden relationship ripens against the backdrop of small-town suspicion and a mysterious coven of vampires. This is a love story with bite.
I've gone back and forth so much with this book, when my friend first told me about them, I hated the idea, vampires that sparkled and had no fangs?! No thanks! But I ran out of things to read and they were on sale at Wal-Mart, I got my parents to buy them for me and read them all within three days. I was hooked, I even cried when the story was over because they were nothing else left to read. It was heartbreaking.

But I've gone through times where I kind of don't like this series as much and then I love it again. Right now, I'm loving this series, the movies are helping me through NaNoWriMo this month.

Never Touched Blitz + Giveaway!

Never Touched
Laney Wylde
Published by: Crimson Tree Publishing
Publication date: November 12th 2018
Genres: Contemporary, New Adult, Romance
What if you woke up from your worst nightmare, only to find the world watching it? On repeat. With relish.

What if those viewers found you? Cornered you until you performed the nightmare live?

Would you run? Fight?

Or charge admittance?

This is Sawyer’s reality. She’s a survivor—gritty and determined—but the struggle to put it all behind her is something that’s with her every second of every day. Her abuser is in jail now, but he’ll never truly let her go. When she tries to shelter in something good, the darkness inevitably follows. The effects of the abuse flow through her life like ripples of pain in this raw, at times darkly comedic, coming-of-age saga that explores what it means to survive the unthinkable—and find the courage to rise up and keep fighting.

Sure to satisfy fans of SILVER LININGS PLAYBOOK and 13 REASONS WHY, Never Touched is a New Adult contemporary drama by breakout author Laney Wylde. Richly written with complex characters and a compelling storyline, it’s perfect for fans of Colleen Hoover’s HOPELESS, Rebecca Donovan’s REASON TO BREATHE, and Jessica Sorensen’s THE COINCIDENCE OF CALLIE & KAYDEN.

Please Note: Story contains graphic sexual content, including mentions of abuse. Strong language throughout.

He shook his head. “You’re an idiot.”

I pushed his arm off my thighs. “You’re an ass.”

“Yep,” he said with a nod. I pressed my lips together to keep from smiling at the pride he found in his flawed personality. Wrapping his arms around his bent knees, he stared at me, like he was gathering information for his next move. I held my ground—no smiling—though barely. After a long minute, he finally said, “You’re cold.”

I glanced down at my hands, which were a pale shade of violet and reflexively quivering against each other to get warm. My body flinched when Jake took them between his, pressing them together and then making a hollow between his palms. He brought our hands to his lips and exhaled softly into the space between his thumbs, creating a small cave of warmth for my fingers. I swallowed past my suddenly dry throat at the cozy shivers racing up my arms.

Jake’s dark eyes raised to mine, making me suddenly aware of the terror that was probably plain on my face. Parted lips, wide eyes, and my breath that had halted some time ago. Why was he touching me? What did he want from me?

Why did I feel good when he touched me?

It wasn’t supposed to feel good, right? I shouldn’t like the feel of his skin on mine. Men only touched to hurt. I shouldn’t want that.

But when he said, “You might be warmer if we sat together,” I nodded and stood, moving so he could take my chair, so I could curl up in his lap.

Huddling my arms against my chest, I rested my head on his shoulder. My eyes shut cautiously so I could take in the scent of his skin. He wrapped his coat over my back before relaxing his cheek into my hair. I kept my eyes closed, half from fear, half from the desperate need to feel what it was like to just be held.

I had felt nothing like it before.

Author Bio:

Laney Wylde is enamored with all things southern California--the traffic, smog, surprise earthquakes, and nonindigenous palm trees. Consequently, it's the landscape her strong and sometimes lovable female leads paint their stories on. Her New Adult novels Never Touched and the After Twelve series are bright with provocative themes, steamy romance, and inappropriately timed humor.

When Laney isn't writing, she's singing Taylor Swift with her little boy or asking her husband not to tell her about his work as a surgical resident while she's eating. She daydreams about using her math degree to get into law school, then realizes that would be too much work and that she should just play pretend court on paper instead. While she loves a good book, nothing beats 30 Rock with a bag of popcorn and M&Ms.
