50/50 Friday - Favorite/Least Favorite Book with a Pink Cover

What is 50/50 Friday?
Everyone has a favorite and then we also have something we dislike. Like a coin, there are two sides to every question. Example: best sequel you've read/worst sequel you've read. So that's what 50/50 Friday is all about. I'll have a new topic every Friday. If you have have ideas for this meme don't be scared to let me know!

Least Favorite Book with a Pink Cover
Perfect (Pretty Little Liars #3)
This is kind of cheating as I've not read this book but I read the first two and didn't like them... so I'm sure I'd not like this one either.

Favorite Book with a Pink Cover
The Iron Queen (The Iron Fey #3)
Sadly, I've still never finished this series. It was huge when I started blogging in 2014 but now... no one ever talks about it.

The Language of Tarot: A Proven System for Reading the Cards - Mini ARC Review

Learn how to give amazingly accurate and insightful tarot readings with little or no guesswork. This revolutionary guide, written by a tarot master with thirty-two years of experience, reveals a simple, proven system that makes reading cards in a spread nearly as straightforward as reading words on a page.

The Language of Tarot presents an innovative system that treats tarot as a science. Author Jeannie Reed discovered that when the same two or three cards appeared together, it always meant the same issue in a client's life. This amazing book reveals what she learned, translating each combination for you and supplying examples that support each lesson until you are fluent in the language of tarot.

Mini Book Breakdown

*I received this title in exchange for an honest review.*

I've never heard of Tarot being done this way. Not once. Granted, I've only been into Tarot for around 5 years. Still, they approach to reading Tarot like a sentence was one that just seemed so freaking cool! It can be used for medical readings as well, which I love! There is so much more to the system than I thought there would be. Not to mention the author's voice is so easy to follow and understand. Very down to earth. I've got nothing but praise for this book and I plan to buy it when it comes out so I can keep it handy.

Music Monday - The 80's (6)

This meme is hosted over at Always Me

This is the last of the 80's. So I will be showing off more than two songs. Hope you enjoy!

Favorite Lyrics

All the school kids so sick of books
They like the punk and the metal band
When the buzzer rings (oh whey oh)
They're walking like an Egyptian

Favorite Lyrics

So they came into the outway
It was Sunday - what a black day
Mouth to mouth
Sounding heartbeats - intimidation

Favorite Lyrics

Darkness falls across the land
The midnight hour is close at hand
Creatures crawl in search of blood
To terrorize y'all's neighborhood
And whosoever shall be found
Without the soul for getting down
Must stand and face the hounds of hell
And rot inside a corpse's shell

Favorite Lyrics

Well if you told me you were drowning, I would not lend a hand
I've seen your face before my friend, but I don't know if you know who I am
Well I was there and I saw what you did, I saw it with my own two eyes
So you can wipe off that grin, I know where you've been
It's all been a pack of lies

Favorite Lyrics

He's a coldhearted snake lookin into his eyes
Oh, oh he's been telling lies he's a lover boy at play
He don't play by the rules oh, oh, oh
Girl don't play the fool now

I mean.. you have to pay so much attention to characters, plots, and worrying who's going to die next. Not a very relaxing beach read.

Cruel Intentions by Siobhan Davis

In the power struggle between two elite groups, one feisty girl will bring them to their knees…

Life is a cruel game where only the most ruthless survive. It’s a truth my mother rebelled against, and she paid for it with her life. Now, I play their game. Publicly accepting the destiny that lies in wait for me when I turn eighteen.

But, behind closed doors, I plot my escape.

Trent, Charlie, and my twin, Drew, rule the hallways of Rydeville High with arrogance and an iron fist. I execute my role perfectly, hating every second, but they never let me forget my place in this world.

Everyone obeys the rules. They have for generations. Because our families have always been in control.

Until Cam, Sawyer, and Jackson show up. Throwing their new money around. Challenging the status quo. Setting hearts racing with their gorgeous faces, hot bodies, and bad boy attitudes.

Battle lines are drawn. Sides are taken. And I’m trapped in the middle, because I made a mistake one fateful night when I gave my V-card to a stranger in a blatant F you to my fiancé.

I thought it was the one thing I owned. A precious memory to carry me through each dark day.

I couldn’t have been more wrong.

Because the stranger was Camden Marshall, leader of the new elite and my perpetual tormenter. He hates me with a passion unrivaled, and he won’t be the only one. Fire will rain down if the truth is revealed, threatening alliances, and the power struggle will turn vicious.

My life will hang in the balance.

But I’ll be ready, and I’m not going down without a fight.

ARC Book Breakdown

*I was given an ARC in exchange for honest review*

I hate having to post this because now I'll probably be off the review team and that sucks. But I will ALWAYS be honest with my thoughts and opinions. I've only read one other book by this author and I really enjoyed it. It was a cute new adult romance that I really need to reread because I liked it. But this one... I have two hard limits when it comes to books. Cheating and drugs. Drugs are used so much that my three strike rule went out the window at 17% into the book. Which sucks, I still kept reading because I felt it was my duty but I knew then and there is was going to get a bad rating.

That's not it though, the characters.... they are all freaking awful. Every. Single. One. There were no characters in this story I enjoyed or related to. They were all so nasty and mean to each other. I think this book was trying to be like Paper Princess or Punk 57 but it failed horribly.

The main girl we follow, whose name I've already banished from my mind, is trapped in this marriage-to-be because her father is an elite bastard who should have his kids taken away and be locked in prison. He lets his best friend (the father of her fiancee) grope his daughter... freaking walks in on her and doesn't even care. It was vile and nasty.

Now normally, I like sex it my books, makes it feel more real but this was overkill! Every little thing was about sex or they were talking about sex. There was even a scene where the MC is being pushed against a tree and things went down in front of the whole group, orgies, violence, just rather disgusting dialogue.... this book has it all. Her brother doesn't give a crap that his twin sister's fiancee is abusive to her. Just tells her to open up to him. Everyone just wants to sleep with the MC. That's it. No one cares about each other.... just sex.

The writing is really good, I found one continuity error that I'm sure will be fixed in the final version, so that's not a big deal at all. Honestly, while this book is not for me. It maybe for you, so give it a go if it sounds interesting to you. I hope you get more from it than I did.

There was a lot more 80's music that I like that's not goth than I thought! How cool is that?!

Favorite Lyrics

Baby, you're all that I want
When you're lyin' here in my arms

Best Read(s) of the Year... So Far
I've read a lot of great books this year! So many that there's no way I could choose just one!

This is a contender for best read of the year, we shall have to wait and see just what the rest of the year offers. If you're never heard of this book before it's basically a hate-to-love romance set in high school but with the heat level of a NA. It's freaking glorious!

This isn't just a kitchen herbal. It offers history into the herbs and that is something I've not come across yet and I freaking love it!

This was a cute little YA romance that just had me smiling at the end. If you're looking for a deep read that will still leave you all giddy inside, grab this!

Worst Read of the Year... So Far
I talked about this one last month I believe and it's still one of the worst books I've ever picked up.

A Conversation Between a Harry Potter Fan and a Non Harry Potter Fan

I recently asked my partner some Harry Potter (HP) questions. He loves that series, has read all the books and seen all the movies. So I wanted to see his answers to my questions. He was kind enough to indulge me.

Me: What does HP mean to you?

Him: I don't know. I'm not one of those overly sappy people whose emotions are tied to books and movies. It was a good time in my life. It was something I enjoyed. HP was the series that got me into reading. I wasn't really a reader before that.

Me: You're not really a reader now.

Him: True.

Me: I love that some books just have that kind of power. Like Twilight, I can't tell you how many bloggers I've met that tell me Twilight was how they got into reading. I like that's nifty. It's nice that these books come along and turn people into readers. Well, did you read much after HP?

Him: A little bit. You have to remember, the HP books finished in 2007. That was two years before I turned 18, so life stuff happened.

Me: What made you fall in love with HP so much?

Him: I guess the same thing that makes everyone fall in love with a series they like. The characters are well written, the world building is great. I think her, George R. R. Martin, and J. R. R. Tolkien are some of the best fantasy world builders. Their worlds feel...

Me: Fleshed out

Him: Yes. You really feel like they know every inch of that world and I find that very satisfying as a reader.

Me: Going off that, since you feel she knows every little detail. How do you feel about the info she keeps dropping on Twitter?

Him: I'm not going to lie, I find some of the more recent details she's put out are silly. I'm not the biggest fan of things like The Cursed Child or even Fantastic Beasts in some parts. I'm not one of those people that even though I don't care about the stuff going on now, it doesn't destroy my love for the original works. Nothing will ever take away from them.

Me: I thought you liked the Fantastic Beasts stuff?

Him: I want to see the movies. I do still find it cool that she's expanding the world and not milking Harry Potter (the character) for all he's worth. Still, no matter what she does with this new stuff, she'll never beat the original series. Even if she came out with a true squeal with HP, I don't think it would ever beat the stuff before. I really think it helps if you were around that age when you got into it. When you're a kid or younger you can connect with magic before you grow into an adult and it's all squished out. I think that's a reason why you weren't able to get into the series. When you go into it as an adult, I can see why it would be harder to get into.

Me: So what is your very first HP memory?

Him: I honestly don't remember. I'm this way about most stuff. People have this tendency to build stuff up but like nine out of ten times it wasn't some big moment where the heavens opened up. My sister and brother told me about them. I saw the second movie and it got me into the series. Then I got the audiobook from the library. I got the available books from Kroger. From then on out, I got the books around the time they actually came out.

Me: What is your actual Hogwarts House?

Him: I don't remember, I think it was Hufflepuff.

Me: Are you happy with your house?

Him: No, not going to lie. While I'm a big HP fan, I'm not a 'Potterhead' in the sense of all that house stuff. I'd honestly like to be in Gryffindor because it's the one that all the main characters are in and it seems like the fun house. You don't really get to know much about the others. Not much is said about Hufflepuff or Ravenclaw and Slytherin is full of a bunch douches.

Me: Ugh no! Slytherin is the best!

Him: Anyone in Slytherin is just a douche.

Me: Well then.

Side Note: That's pretty much it. He was joking about Slytherin because he knows it's my house.

ARC Review - The Scottish Rogue by Heather McCollum

1684, Scottish Highlands

Englishwoman Evelyn Worthington is resolved to build a school for ladies in her brother's newly purchased Scottish castle. But when she arrives, not only does she find the castle scorched by fire, but a brawny Highlander bars her entry.

Clan chief Grey Campbell would rather die than see his family home, Finlarig Castle, fall into English hands, so Grey must win the battle of wills with the beautiful Sassenach who flashes a bill of sale before him.

When the war between Evelyn and Grey escalates, passions flare. But outsiders have their own plans for Finlarig. After secrets are revealed, and muskets are lit, the fates of the Campbell Clan, the school, and a possible future for Grey and Evelyn are in as much jeopardy as their lives.

Book Breakdown

*Thanks to NetGalley for this title. I read and reviewed this title voluntarily*

A new favorite! I honestly thought this was going to be just another romance novel but this one was really good! I love that the couple didn't get together and break up every five seconds but there was plenty of epic drama to keep the story gripping my interest. I love that it starts fast, no boring parts at all. The writing is wonderful, flows perfectly and is easy to understand. The characters are awesome. I love Evelyn, she's strong, forward thinking, and not about to sit down and let others do all the hard work. She's also very loyal to those she loves. Just a wonderful character! Our hero is just as wonderful! He's a strong leader that's not put off by a strong woman.

Watching their romance was sizzling! It's so long before they finally get together and it had me sitting on the edge of my seat. Too engrossed to put the e-reader down. I just had to keep going. Overall, this is such a great historical romance novel. I loved every second of it.

Round 4! Fight!

Favorite Lyrics

I'm never gonna dance again
Guilty feet have got no rhythm
Though it's easy to pretend
I know you're not a fool
Should've known better than to cheat a friend
And waste the chance that I've been given
So I'm never gonna dance again
The way I danced with you

50/50 Friday - Best/Worst Read in May

Welcome to 50/50 Friday! I hope you had a great week, maybe got to swim or just getting ready for summer, enjoying that school is out (or almost out). I'm excited for summer, not because I love the heat but because I won't have to worry about colds till school starts back up and that means less stress and more time for fun things!

Anyway, I'm sure you're just here for the good stuff so let's jump into it.

What is 50/50 Friday?
Everyone has a favorite and then we also have something we dislike. Like a coin, there are two sides to every question. Example: best sequel you've read/worst sequel you've read. So that's what 50/50 Friday is all about. I'll have a new topic every Friday. Don't forget to visit other links and see what others have chosen. Out Now!
I enjoyed seeing all your Freebies! We should do a Freebie more often! If you have any ideas for upcoming 50/50 Friday's please let me know!

I read more than I thought I would during this month so that's always nice. I also read a lot of really goods stuff. Only two books were just meh. So it's hard to choose only one to place here. Therefore, I picked two.

They're both very highly recommended by me! Spin the Dawn is a YA Mulan meets Project Runway fantasy while The Scottish Rogue is a wonderful historical romance. Review for Spin the Dawn will come closer to the release date, so keep checking back if you're interested. The Scottish Rogue review will be up this coming week!

Worst Reads of May

I was nearly heartbroken when I settled on a rating for Moonlight Scandals. JLA is one of my favorite authors but this book was just... some weird soap opera stuff went down in the end and I was just kind of laughing. My favorite will always be Gabe's book.

Do you ever get random emails with offers for free books if you just review them? Well The Alpha Takes a Bride was one of those for me. I've been reading a lot of shifter books lately and thought I'd give this one a chance... just wasn't my thing.

My Top Ten Favorite Bands/Singers

If you've been around my little corner of the internet for any length of time at all, you'll know that I love music. I often read while listening to music, always have it going in the car and also at home whenever my partner is gone (he hates my music tastes and I don't like his).

So I've got some favorite bands/singers that I wanted to share. I did this list years go and my taste has changed a lot! This isn't in a certain order as I could never choose that. So let's jump into this!

Honorable Mentions

10) Inkubus Sukkubus
This is a Pagan folk/rock band. I love them because I can relate a lot to what they sing about.

9) Adrian Von Ziegler
Now this one isn't a singer but the music he makes just sets the tone for whatever you want. He's amazing! If you like classical music, you'll love his stuff.

I love how she plays with different styles and just doesn't stay with one. Plus her voice is amazing.

7) Breaking Benjamin
These guys are just amazing. I love the voice, the hard rock, the lyrics. I'm never disappointed by this band. NEVER!

6) Linkin Park
I have loved this group since their very first album when I heard the song 'In the End' I will forever miss that we won't get more music for them. Mental health is no joke, get the help you need. We don't need another light going out before it's time.

They only have one album but they are amazing! They sing a lot about Nordic mythology, which just hits home with me. They've also been helping me write my historical fantasy novel.

6) Celtic Woman
This group has some amazing singers and I just feel at home when I listen to them.

5) Her Despair
This is a new goth group and I'm loving what they put out. I'm not the biggest fan of the older original goth music... I know that would totally get me into lots of trouble with goths but I like what I like.

4) Icon for Hire
This group is one that does not get the love they deserve! They are fantastic! They also have a strong feminist touch if you're into that.

3) The Awakening
This is my favorite goth band right now. They are freaking amazing! Dark romantic lyrics, a voice that will make you swoon. Ugh, just perfection.

2) Lady Gaga
I've loved her from the beginning. She's amazing, talented, and just puts out awesome music. I can't wait to see what she does next!

I never get sick of their music. NEVER! It's been a staple in my writing playlist since I found them. I really don't know how I went without them so long.

Tell me below who your favorite musical act is. Do you like any that I've listed? Have a great day and happy reading!

Accidental Knight Blitz

Accidental Knight
Nicole Snow
Publication date: May 28th 2019
Genres: Adult, Contemporary, Romance
Accidentally wed to a man I’ve never met…
I inherited a freaking husband.
Grandpa’s will was a shocker: huge fortune, gorgeous ranch, and the best horse ever.
The fine print? Marrying Mr. Grump-alicious.
The man who’s supposed to protect me from…what, exactly?
That’s what I hope to find out if Drake Larkin ever talks.
I know what I’m in for the first time his glance tears me open.
A broody enigma who’s large and in charge.
A mute who curls my toes when he barks a few words.
A silly, shameful, is-this-real-life crush I can’t afford.
Did I mention our pretend marriage-rodeo lasts six damn months?
Long enough to teach my heart cartwheels.
Time enough to seal this madness with a kiss.
Insane enough for secrets to slip – and sting.
Grandpa’s last wishes scare me. So do Drake’s real motives.
But it’s my beast of a “husband” who makes ridiculous seem right.
Have I found my knight?
Does love have a prayer when life throws us a dragon?
From Wall Street Journal bestselling author Nicole Snow – a mistake meant to be. One moody alpha slayer gives his all to rustle up the damsel of his dreams. Full length romance novel with a heartwarming Happily Ever After.
“You aren’t going nowhere till I see how bad that knee is,” he rumbles. “Shit. If I’d known outside it was bleeding so bad, I’d have carried you in.”
Peachy. Another image I don’t need, being flung over Drake’s wall of a shoulder like this is some kind of crazy western romance novel or something.
He would have to say something like that, wouldn’t he? Kick this whole awkward attraction thing into overdrive.
I shake my head too fast. “Come on, it’s not that bad. Barely hurts. I’m sure it’s like my arms. The blood makes it look worse than it is.”
I nod.
“So where’s the blood coming from that’s dripping on your sock?”
“What?” I lean forward to see.
It’s the only ruse, the only opening, he needs. Taking advantage of my movement, he lifts me up in one quick jerk.
Pain flares up my leg, into my thigh, and down again into my shin. I suck in a breath to counter it and to keep from squealing.
“Barely hurting now?” he says.
“Screw you,” I snap. It hurts, honestly. Stings so bad I can’t even afford to kick him where it counts.
“Not today, darlin’. No time for sexy business.”
Oh. My. God.
My other knee almost gives out. It’s mostly Drake propping me up, running his hands up my legs, and then…then we’re doing this.
“Hold on to the table so I can unbutton your jeans.”
I reach for it, all right, because that sentence nearly destroys what’s left of my poor sanity.
Thankfully, an iota of common sense prevails. “I’m not that helpless! I’ll unbutton them myself.”
“Go ahead. Unzip, too. Then push them down.”
“I don’t need step by step instructions!” I almost shout it.
Other parts of me are far too well aware how close he’s standing next to me.
How his hands feel on my waist, supposedly to steady me.
How I’m about to drop my jeans, and be standing here, in front of this total stranger I’m married to, wearing next to nothing.
The shine in his eyes says he’s enjoying this. Of-freaking-course he is.
It can’t be that bad, can it?
Maybe I can even have some fun, leave him with a lovely view he’ll never see again. Of all my ass-sets, I know what men like best, even if I’m still a hopeless virgin.
Deviancy strikes. I’ve worn less at the beach.
“Okay,” I whisper.
